Anyone out there run the surgery board/schedule? If so, please share some of the stories that have made you laugh or cry:rotfl: I have been a charge nurse with a 17 suite and now 8 suite OR. I'm in need of some holiday cheer so please help me out.

Hi Stacey..Not much makes you laugh when running the board! Lots if tears though. My worst error (funniest now, since it happen over 10 years ago) was when (I THOUGHT) a cardiac surgeons office person called to say he would be delayed a couple of hours. His name rhymed with a general surgeon, notorious for being delayed. I put the cardiac surgeon's CABG on hold and allowed a waiting list case to have his spot. Meanwhile, we opened the general surgeons case (the actual one delayed) and sent for his patient. WELL....The cardiac surgeon was NOT happy> especially since "his" CV team was now doing another case. Worst of all, I had that poor patient (of delayed surgeon) pre-op'd and on the floor. I had LOTS of explaining and apologizing to do. Listened to lots of "hearing aid needed" jokes. And could hear the snide comments from all the staff about the "idiot" in charge!

Because we have residents posting cases and a receptionist writing them on the board, we get some "interesting" cases. Such as...Bilateral lung excision, brain excision, loopy ileostomy, histericalectomy, AV pistula, & cardiogastric bypass.

Now is that a delicate operation?
