I've seen the thread rules for the ER, rules for the OB, and the one about wackos in the class and I thought of starting one for students.

Rules for student nurses.

1. If you didn't study, taking extra time on the test won't make the answers fall into your head.

2. Changing schools won't help. No, the teachers aren't mean. See rule 1.

3. Sooner or later, people will get tired of you wanting to copy their homework, especially if they were up half the night finishing it and missed their favorite TV show.

What exactly is team leading?

Not sure if every school has this assignment - I've had it in 3 of my 5 clinicals so far.

I was told this assignment was supposed to prepare you to be a charge nurse someday. So you have your group of, let's say 8 students. Two of those students are picked to be "team leaders." (they each have a group of 3 students). The team leaders doesn't do any patient care - they assign patients to the members of their team, & basically just go around helping them all night, "supervising" them & making sure they're getting their work done. I remember part of the assignment was to tell each member of your group good things they did that night & things they need to work on.

The first gal I had (who was 20 years old) took the assignment way too seriously. Bossed me around, talked to me like I was a 3-year old, etc.

Not to toot my own horn, but when I was team leader, people on my team told me I was awesome because I actually helped them with their patient cares & quizzed them on the meds they were supposed to pass...didn't just boss them around & act like I was actually their instructor, or charge nurse.

Thanks for clarifying that for me!! I don't start NS until the summer, but I'm hoping my school doesn't do that! I come off as a bit of a snob sometimes--but I'm not, really! I'm just pretty shy and don't say a whole lot unless its "necessary..." Thanks though...

When you know I am a recent grad of the same program you are in...you know I work weekends with your instructor...and I walk in the room to find you doing a blood sugar without gloves...do not look at me and say...we were taught you do not need to use gloves for this procedure.....I know you were taught to use gloves....one its blood and two...nursing students are taught to use gloves for everything....

You are a student visiting your grandma in the hospital...you know I am a new grad from the same program...do not ring the call light...tell the secretary you need me (by name) to come in the room...then when I get there start quizzing me about the drugs on your upcoming pharmacology exam...I already took the exam...took my NCLEX and passed...I do not need to be quizzed or do your studying for you....besides....I am busy with 6 pts...the unit secretary is busy....unless grandma needs something please do not push the call light and call me in there....I do not mind answering questions...but come on...(this really happened....)
