rue education

I'm thinking about signing up with rue education. Any advice?? Thanks.

It is my understanding that they are a publisher, NOT a school.

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons: You can find lots of useful information and support/encouragement here.

I am moving your post to the Distance Learning forum, since that is the specific topic of your question. There are many existing threads about RUE and members' experiences with and opinions about them, both pro and con. You could find these threads by using the "search" feature in the upper right corner of the screen (and search for "RUE"), and it would be well worth your time to find and read them.

The first thing it's important to understand is that RUE is not a school, college, or any kind of degree-granting institution. It is a publishing company that sells you materials to help you get through the Excelsior College (EC) distance learning program. Your degree would actually come from EC. Many people here will tell you that you don't need the additional materials that RUE wants to sell you; you can complete the EC program with just the materials that EC provides; and EC specifically advises people, on its website, not to sign contracts with these "middleman" publishing companies.

Other people have gone through RUE and have felt they had a good experience. It is a very individual choice.

Be aware, though, that you will be signing a legally binding contract with RUE, and will not be able to get out of the contract later on if you change your mind. Even if you are unhappy with the materials/services they provide, or simply decide, once you're in the program, that you don't need them after all, you will still owe them the entire amount of money you originally agreed to pay.

For that reason, I would encourage you to research and consider your choices very carefully before you make a decision and sign anything with RUE. I strongly encourage you to review the various opinions/experiences about RUE here, at least.

The Distance Learning forum here is a very lively and active one, so I'm sure some of the "regulars" will be along shortly to comment, also. Again, welcome, and best wishes! :)

check out studygroup 101 or larends (lisa arends) study guides on ebay, and know that excelsior gives FREE exam content guides and recommendations for textbooks (which you can find used for pretty cheap on amazon or half.com. i'm not sure about the cost of rue study materials, but i think its pretty expensive, and then you still have to pay excelsior for all the the exams, enrollment fees, etc.

fyi- i haven't even applied to excelsior yet, and haven't actually used any of the above methods, so i may not be the best one to give you advice. this is just what i've come up with so far in trying to figure out how to do my lpn-rn. i've heard good things about the ebay study guides from others who have used them, though....
