rude posts

Nursing Students General Students

Hi. So I am only going to post on the nursing school forum from now on. I have posted before on the general forum and I get really rude comments from seasoned nurses. Does this happen to anyone else?

That's how things can seem on the internet. I've seen some rude posts in response to mine and I've been accused (indirectly) of being rude. It's hard to tell exactly what the person on the other side is really thinking, so it's probably best not to get defensive in most cases.

Not defending those that HAVE actually been rude, but, a lot of times it is also hard to tell the intended tone of the post, since you cant hear the person say it.

I have yet to personally encounter rudeness on these boards, but I hope that wont discourage you from posting! :)

Agree with this.

I was reviewing your history since there are only 8 posts - I didn't see anything really rude, but only my opinion.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

That's probably not a bad idea for you. There are forums here I never visit as well. I hope you continue to post and enjoy the site.

Rudeness is a violation of the Terms of Service and should be reported to the moderators.

However, some members can be borderline with the Terms of Service and skate by. That's life on the internet.

I also agree that sometimes the tone of a post is hard to read. Sometimes people report "rude" posts that leave me scratching my head thinking "where's the rudeness". So sometimes it's in the eyes of the reader.

You need to keep things in perspective. Most of the posts are neutral towards students and new grads. A good deal of them are supportive and helpful. A small fraction of the tens and thousands of posts are rude.

Experienced nurses don't have the license on being rude. Sometimes students can feel entitled to have the red carpet rolled out to them as they care calling us experienced nurses "old battleaxes who eat their young and are jealous of our youth and superior knowledge and updated skills".

I take what I need and leave the rest. If someone is rude, I report them. If someone is disagreeable, I might engaged them and put my two cents in and discuss it, or mostly I just ignore them and allow them to be who they are.

As this is a non-nursing student related thread we're closing this thread. :)
