U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I am attending at CCP and I can't decide either I go for RN or RRT. I see there a many ppl applying for Nursing because it's the most " well pay" job in today's market. However, It 's so competitive to go for nursing. Recently, I see there another program that similar to Nursing which is called Respiratory therapy care. The program has less requirements to get in to the field. However, I am not sure what I want to do. In fact, up to this moment I still thinking about RN even though they already accepted me to the RT program. :uhoh21: I heard that RNs are more important than RRTs and the RNs can find job easier.....But I only have 3.0 GPA... I don't think i can get accept in Nursing school. By the way, what is the different between a diploma in Nursing and assoscate in Nusing ? which one make more money? I would like to apply for Frankford hospital Nursing school, becuase I guess is more easier to get accepted in Nursing schools. Is that ture ? please help me out from the situation !!! RRT OR RN :uhoh3: Diploma RN OR Associate degree RN ? .....HELP :bluecry1:

Thank YOU

Hello, I see you posted this under the PA forum. Do you mind my asking where you are located (generally speaking) in the state? The reason I ask is that I do know of some nursing schools in the Pittsburgh region that are more concerned with how you preform on entrance exams than your GPA. BTW: I think your GPA is good, and if you apply to the right nursing school and do well on the entrance exam, you could have a chance.

I can only help you with a portion of your question. To be honest I am not sure what the responsibilities of a RRT are so I dont want to give wrong information. I do know that there were several RRT in the nursing program at CCP going for a career change.

In the Philadelphia area pay is the same at most major hospitals whether you have an ADN or a Diploma. Diploma programs are generally 3 years while ADN are 2 years of nursing classes. But the ADN does turn into 3 years when you take the time for pre-reqs. I think one of the "issues" Diploma programs had in the past is that they would teach A&P and other courses so that when their RNs would later try to get their BSN they didnt have any actual college credits, but alot of diploma programs have gotten around that by having their non-nursing courses taught at Penn State or other community colleges. Both programs are great. No one will treat you different if you go to eitrher as long as you pass NCLEX

Good luck

I still don't know rather I go for RNor RRT....... but the pay and options in Nursing are seems much better than RRT program... I am already 21 ... and i am unsure about my funture.. ALL I KNOW Is.. i want to work at the hospital in the future!!! I want a well pay job, a job won''t be boring to me, a job that I can actually help other people, a job that I can easy to find to work. Please help!! Nursing school make me upset... it seems really hard to get into the field ! Is there is a shortage of nursing, then why they don't accept student in a large number ? There are tons of ppl who want to do nursing and couldn't get into the field ... I feel sorry for them.. as well as mine too...

One of the reasons there is a nursing shortage is because of lack of nursing faculty. The reason classes are so small becuase there arent enough teachers to teach all that want to go. But make sure this is something you want. We lost alot of people the first year becausethey found out nursing want for them

If you are going to go for nursing...go for at least the associates...diploma nursing is limited unless you already have some experience behind you.

I am currently a LPN but am in a RN bridge program right now. I have alot of friends who are RNs...they all say...at least get a degree...these days you really need at least an associates...and someday that may be "passe"...
