Frustrated in Philly - CCP past Grads advice welcome
I just want to let everyone know that HUP is the only hospital that will not hire you with an ADN in the city. You can still work at Pennsylvania, Presby or their other hospitals. Reason I know this is because I have fellow grads that work or just were hired at these hospitals and they only have their ADNs. Good luck to everyone!

Relocating to LA
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. I am relocating to LA to be closer to my family. I currently live in Philadelphia,PA. My mom is originally from Church Point, LA (its near Opelousas if you know where that is). Anyway My choices are Lafayette, Baton Rouge and I might consider New Orleans. Here are my questions.... 1. Does anyone have any suggestions on hospital? I currently work in a small community based catholic hospital. Small up here is 250 beds. I work on a post op floor that holds 27 beds. 2. What are the pay diff for each city if you know? I have 1 year experience and am an RN 3. I need to find an RN-BSN program there Thanks again

Frustrated in Philly - CCP past Grads advice welcome
Here are my two cents... I graduated last year and did not start my job search until July after I found out I passed boards. Honest truth I sent my resume out on a Friday on Monday I had calls from three hospitals. In one week I went on and recieved 5 job offers. Right now the recruiters for hospitals are swamped. You are competing with all the other graduates from other Nursing schools and colleges. As for the BSN issue the only hspital in the city that requires a BSN to my knowlege is HUP. I know RNs with ADNs at all the other hospitals you mentioned including CHOP,Jefferson,, Pennsylvania, and Presby. Also keep an open mind... there are a alot of hosptals in the city that are not university hospitals that have great learning envirnments for new grads.

Mercy Hospital - West Philly
Not trying to start any flames but I would be interested to know what GSWs you got on your floor since Mercy does not have a trauma team and only a level 4 ER if I am not mistaken. Might be level 3. For the OP - ER is hard anywhere from what I have heard, especially at a hospital like Mercy that has a hard time attracting nurses. One of the reason it has a hard time attracting nurses because of the myth that it is an inferior hospital or its a hospital in the "ghetto".Another topic on its own. but if you want to see GSWs I would suggest a larger hospital. You'll see alot of DKA, OD, MI and people using the ER as a clinic at Mercy.

RRTs vs RNs // Dipolma RN vs ADN RN
One of the reasons there is a nursing shortage is because of lack of nursing faculty. The reason classes are so small becuase there arent enough teachers to teach all that want to go. But make sure this is something you want. We lost alot of people the first year becausethey found out nursing want for them

RRTs vs RNs // Dipolma RN vs ADN RN
I can only help you with a portion of your question. To be honest I am not sure what the responsibilities of a RRT are so I dont want to give wrong information. I do know that there were several RRT in the nursing program at CCP going for a career change. In the Philadelphia area pay is the same at most major hospitals whether you have an ADN or a Diploma. Diploma programs are generally 3 years while ADN are 2 years of nursing classes. But the ADN does turn into 3 years when you take the time for pre-reqs. I think one of the "issues" Diploma programs had in the past is that they would teach A&P and other courses so that when their RNs would later try to get their BSN they didnt have any actual college credits, but alot of diploma programs have gotten around that by having their non-nursing courses taught at Penn State or other community colleges. Both programs are great. No one will treat you different if you go to eitrher as long as you pass NCLEX Good luck

Newbie wants to know if any CCP nursing students here?
Hi gwami. I jut graduated from CCP's nuring school and am studying for NCLEX as we speak... The following poster wa correct on the most part about the program. This year they will now be conducting interviews. No waiting list you either get in or you dont then reapply. The program is excellent as well as the teachers. If you want to start in fall 2007 you have to apply in Oct of 2006. Clinacals are hospital based, long term care and community based ( we were the first college in the US to intergrate that into our program). Any questions that I can help with send me a message

Community College of Philadelphia?
As of today I am an officially a graduate of CCP's Nursing program. (Pinning was today). I would like to comment about the things I have read about the Nursing program. I would please ask if you have not officially attended the program please refrain from commenting on it. CCP overall yes is unorganized, but so are a lot of larger colleges, the Nursing department is not. The program is well run, has amazing staff, one of our current professors is the President of the NLN-National League of Nursing and is the first ever from a two-year college to hold the position. The pass rate for NCLEX for the class of 2005 was 88% on first try which is very good, above national and state average. If you have any questions just pm me

Philly area, associates or bachelors preferred?
The University of Pennsylvania hospital is the only one in the area that I know of that requires a BSN to work

Has anyone been accepted to RMH school of nursing or CCP
I am a nursing student at CCP, due to graduate May 5th this year. We have a great program here. You have to beware on people at the school who claim to be in the program and say things about it. Very organized actually. But pick whats best for you. If you have any questions I am here
