Anyone out there who have ther 4 challenge exams, submitted all the paperwork, and are now waiting to hear whether your are conditionally accepted to the ISU LVN/LVN to BSN fall 2010 program/ If so, where are you located?:redbeathe

Good luck with the program. I considered it but went in a different direction when ISU would not answer my questions. I also tried to get in touch with others in my area to find out what they were doing for preceptors and clinical sites, but got no response.

Carlotter, Congratulations for finding a good fit with your program. I am certain that your program is excellent, but for me, Excelsior is that is not recognized in my state--and others. My state's BAOA requires a certain amount of lecure as well as clinical hours (beyond the capstone internship during the last semester/quarter), which is not offered thorugh Excelsior. :coollook:

He, he. Who says I have a good fit? CA stopped recognizing Excelsior in 2003. Backwards as usual. ISU is not a viable option when they don't put themselves out to help their prospective students. WGU has started up a promising looking program in CA but so far is only operating in southern CA. Not much out there for CA students who can't go with CA nursing schools for one reason or another. There is a lot of room out there everywhere for schools to compete with Excelsior for the distance learning student tuition money.

[...] "ca stopped recognizing excelsior in 2003. backwards as usual."

a very odd response. how did regional mudsling and state ethnocentrism become the subject?

but let's address your comments concerning regional state ethnocentrism: is ca really backwards?

a) clearly you are not aware that ca gave women the vote long before the rest of america women received their rights.

b) if you are condeming calif for lack of progressivism, there are many other states that have stagnated or have progressed as a snail's pace.

to get to the heart of you assertion--you are complaining that calif's boa withdrew excelsior's accreditation, you are correct. excelsior's nursing education did not meet the calif's bon program requirements. quite honestly,in my humble opinion, i believe it valid. calif's standards are based on the quality of the college's education and the student's clinical experience. no ca nursing student will receive their license until they have achieved a set amount of education and clinical hands-on experience.

"isu is not a viable option when they don't put themselves out to help their prospective students."

i cannot speak about your specific, personal experience; however, from my perspective, isu has been more than helpful to prospective students. i have talked to just about every administrative assistant in the program as well as the director. my experience, so far, has been satisfactory.

“wgu has started up a promising looking program in ca but so far is only operating in southern ca."

are you aware why western governors university has only one so cal facility? wgu is a private university devised and supported by surrounding hospitals and their foundations. should other cities, hospitals and their foundations cough up the funding for wgu to open the same type of facility in their city, i am certain that wgu would be happy to open another university location. however, the funding and support for wgu is provided by specific so calif hospitals and their foundations and that limits the amount of students and the venue.

"not much out there for ca students who can't go with ca nursing schools for one reason or another."

quite honestly, i can sit in my living room and within 30 miles there are the following nursing schools: la valley college, la pierce college, la city college, pasadena city college, santa monica college, moorpark college, cal state university northridge, california state university los angeles, ucla, marymount, oklahoma university, antelope valley college, college of the canyons, ventura city college. there are numerous other colleges outside the 30 mile radius as well as lvn and cna programs. in every profession there will be students who cannot continue to higher degrees for "one reason or another." sadly that is a definite fact and relevant to any university program. however, to lower calif's bon requirements to enable people to obtain a nursing license would not be in the public's best interests.

i dispute the fact that there is "not much out there for ca students". i doubt that the students matriculating through those programs would agree that there is little to offer ca (nursing) students.

"there is a lot of room out there everywhere for schools to compete with excelsior for the distance learning student tuition money." i agree that there is a need for more schools, colleges, and universities to teach a adn or bsn program in any state of the us. the need has created an impacted program. however, to reduce the quality of nursing education serves no one--other than the morticians and attorneys.

state mud throwing and ethnocentrism is not acceptable. can we please keep on thread :twocents:
