RPN to RN Timeline Question

Published

Hey guys, I'm looking to start my nursing journey from RPN to RN and I have a few question about time lines. I got accepted to the waitlist for centennial's flex program for a September 2019 start, and I am wondering if I should wait for the January 2020 start programs.

  1. To apply for bridging programs, do I need to complete the CPNRE or can I after graduating? If I can apply after graduation and I finish the program in April or July, would I be able to make it in for the September start?
  2. For a 5 semester RPN program like Seneca and Durham, if I start in January 2020, do I finish in July 2021 or December 2022?
  3. Is it possible to make it for the September 2021 intake for bridging program if I start in September 2019 or Janurary 2020?
  4. If I wish to finish the RN program as soon as possible, is it best to complete RPN program, then do the bridging program, and then the RN program? Or maybe spend this fall and next spring getting/upgrading 12U marks and apply for September 2020 at a BScN program?

Thanks

1. You can apply before the CPNRE but you have to pass it before the start of the bridging program. Applications for September is sometime in February.

2. Normally people who start in Sept do fall and winter terms. However, there is a possibility you can fast track where you can enroll in the summer term too. So you will be doing consecutive terms.

3. It is possible if you take consecutive terms without taking a break in between.

4. It depends on which term you're applying for and how long it will take for you to upgrade.

Why not just apply to uni for the degree programme? Save yourself time, money, and a few steps.

I don't have 12U courses from high school. It would be roughly 5 years either path, and I think I save more money from the RPN path.

Thanks, I think for the Fall start I can graduate it in April and write the CPNRE in June, and get in for September assuming everything goes right.

1. To do RPN-RN Bridging, you must hold an RPN registration with CNO.

2. Centennial Bridging - I did Flex. 3 semesters. Fall '14, Winter '15, & Fall '15. Check if they are offering the 3rd semester in Summer now. If you start Flex then you will continue Parttime in Ryerson.

3. Coming from someone who completed RPN-Bridging-BScN. It is worth completing the BScN 4 years straight. You can work as healthcare aide/constant care in hospital with Nursing Resource Team upon completing ?2nd year.
