Roxbury Community College nursing 2014

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello everyone Im new to this site. I check this site regularly for information. Unfortunately i have not seen anything current relating to RCC . I was accepted into their nursing program for jan 2014  ( i'm very excited).

Can anyone ( nursing students or recent grads)

shed some light on what i should be expecting? I know they recommend you don't work no more than approx 20hrs a week, but that will be difficult. How do someone gain experience in the health care field as a nursing student if their current job is not related ? I know experience is gained through clinical's however is this the only way? Any and all advice is appreciated from all nurses or graduates from any colleges.

Thank you.

Happy New year

Hi Gigi1234,

How did you make out with Admissions? Did you get an acceptance letter yet? *crossing fingers for you*

Hi Gigi1234,

Have you been able to get in contact with anyone in the Nursing Department over at RCC? (This is lizbee227 I just recently changed my name)

Also to all of my fellow accepted classmates: We are a little over a month away from starting school! How are you feeling? What have you bought/still need to get in preparation for the fall semester? I didn't get my scrub bottoms from McGill's; instead I looked around at Uniforms for America in Watertown and at Walmart. I ended up getting 2 pairs of white pants at Walmart for less money along with a waterproof watch (I did get the optional bandage scissors in Watertown though). I'm just missing shoes and books then I should be all set

Hey lizbee2010! Yes, I am super excited for school to commence! I purchased my uniforms (except pants and shoes) from McGills, I also got my stethoscope from them as well. I purchased my shoes and scrub pants from Working Gear in dedham. I got my watch from Amazon, I also got all of my texts plus some supplemental texta to add to the required text on Amazon, cheaper than purchasing from the bookstore.

That's awesome! I got shoes and even asked the secretary of the department about them and she said shoes don't matter as long as they are leather, white and don't have any holes (I did walk into the Nursing lab and saw pics of past students and some of them definitely weren't wearing nursing clogs lol). If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for your books to arrive after you ordered them from Amazon?

That's great to know! My books came about a week the most a week and a half. I love Amazon. I just purchased another text book and I am expecting it next week.

Did you purchase the lab bag? I saw on the bookstore website that the lab bag is required? I did not remember hearing that at orientation...

No I haven't bought the lab bag yet. I remember at the orientation she told us that the lab bag/kit is needed and that we can't buy it anywhere else except at the RCC bookstore. Also, I learned during my undergrad years that eFollett Bookstore receipts are tax deductible, so save those receipts when you do your taxes this year!!

Ok great, thanks!
