I am starting a thread for those applying for the Roseman Oct 2022 cohort. I believe first round of interview is next week EEK! So nervous, but also excited!
I'm also very nervous about the essay we have to write.

1. When do clinicals actually start? For example, if we start the program in early October, when should we actually expect to do clinicals I.e. 3 weeks in, in November, etc.?
2. When it comes to getting a nursing job, can people get accepted into jobs before graduation?
3. What was your favorite/least favorite clinicals?
4. Any specific tips for the Roseman program that you can think of? ?
Thank you! ❤️
Hi! Sorry for the major delay in response.
1. Clinicals start on block 3, but you do have to attend sim labs for block 2. Block 1 is entirely online. It is still in your best interest to live near south jordan or henderson when you start the program.
2. Based on my experience and my cohort, we all took the NCLEX and then applied for jobs after. You receive your ATT (auth to test) after you graduate within ~1.5 weeks. After that you can register to take the boards whenever. I strongly recommend you take the NCLEX in NV and do license by endorsement with CA (if that's your plan) because if you register to take the NCLEX in CA; the waitlist to receive your ATT and such can take 3 months.
3. My favorite clinical was peds, but that's because I like kids more than working med-surg LOL. You see a different aspect of nursing and it sorta broadens more opportunities. My least favorite block was 5 & 10; which is adult health I & II. Those two blocks were the most time consuming. Pharm (block 4) was also another time consuming class that I would really focus on
4. Specific tips would be time management. It is vital in this program because it isn't a sprint; it's a marathon with very little breaks in between. Your time will be dedicated for the 16 months. I would try to limit any distractions you might have or take care of the big yield things now before you start the program. I would also encourage you to take a vacation and go somewhere nice before the program begins.

Hello! So our class got an email earlier today showing all the textbooks that are required for the program. I wanted to ask how frequent you used the books as I'm deciding whether I should just rent or buy them (I'm trying to save as much money as I can ?) . Would you say you used them just for a specific block or did you use the book(s) throughout the entire program? Thank you for answering questions!
Hi! I am also a current Roseman Student.
Shoes - Quite a few students have those clove nursing shoes. I thought they were uncomfortable personally. Also, you only have to wear them to lab and clinical and I am 100% not going to wear mine when I finish school and start a job. I would get whatever ones are the cheapest but still white and non-permeable. Some of the professors on SJ campus in the beginning of your program are sticklers and you get called out if you do not have white shoes after the first day of lab.
Stethoscope - Most students have at least a Littman 3 classic, I would get one that is not crappy because it is so hard to hear the blood pressure beats without. If you know you want to do ICU or something in the hospital that you know will require you to have a stethescope I would even say to get a cardiology or something a little nicer. If you want to do a field though that does not require that I would say something about the caliper of a Littman classic would work great. I have a case from amazon that works great for that and our pen lights that you have as well, it makes it easier to just chuck in your backpack or clinical bag.
Tips -- You will get a mentor when you start. It will be the cohort right in front of you about 2-3 people you can ask questions to. They will be the most helpful in how the professors and the classes go. I would just make sure that you attend lectures on zoom and stay on top of it every single day so nothing builds up. If you get behind the courses are so fast paced it is hard to get caught back up. You can do it!
If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Hi! I am also a roseman student. I personally bought the textbooks that they gave you in the email but I would not do that again if I were to restart the program. I hardly used any of them other than the Fundies book and the Med Surg book. You could 100% get away with renting a digital or physical copy.
The med surg book is the only book that will come back. You use that in block 5 and then again in block 10 so if you wanted to buy a book it would be that one.
The fundamentals book you use block 2 & 3 and then never again.

Yep! So if you pass then you just have a few day break.

It really depends on the block you are in. 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10 are really heavy on labs so when you have a lab/assessment you have to be on campus. I would say though other than block 2 which is every single day on campus its no more than 2-3 days per week.
The day to day normally consists of a zoom lecture and then time to study

My advice is to take advantage of the time off you have! Before I started, I also felt like I was just sitting on my hands but it was the best thing before the craziness starts! Spend time with family, spend time on your hobbies, and relax!! Looking back, there is nothing I could have studied that would have made a difference, if that helps!
