As the moderator for this forum ... I am interested to know where everyone is from, their background, branch of service (or VA VISN) and what they like the best about Military or VA Nursing .... this forum generally has some really good traffic, and I would like to pull all of us together and get to know one another a little better.
Hi, I spent four years in the navy on a submarine as an enlisted man. I am now graduating in the spring from an ADN program. I have been looking into the military for career options. If you have any advice please put it down in the thread about 'Student nurses interested in information about military nursing'. or something like that. It should be right above this thread.
Thanks
Came to work at the VA straight out of nursing school. I've been here 16 1/2 years, but am hoping to soon get out on disability retirement since I am not doing my true love: direct patient care of the veterans.
The veterans are all a unique group of people and the majority do appreciate what the nurses do for them. Yes, I agree there are better ways to manage the cost of items, but I am SO glad I chose to work here.

I am a 46 year old OB nurse who joined the Army 2.5 years ago after 9/11. It has been an interesting experience to say the least. It isn't a career for me but I am extending an extra year. I was deployed at the beginning of the war and worked asa med/surg nurse for the first time EVER. I had not taken care of men since nursing school so that was enlightening. Even though there are days that I don't think I can take it anymore, I wouldn't trade this experience for nothing.
