RNs in plastic surgery?

I was not sure where to post my question so I hope I am in the right spot!

I am in LPN school and plan on going for my RN.

I would like to someday work in plastic surgery or in a med-spa environment.

My question is, what type of advanced degree/certificates will I need?

Thanks, any info is appreciated! :heartbeat

Visit the American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses

https://www.aspsn.org/

They state " To be eligible to apply for certification, the candidate must

1. Be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the United States, its territories, or Canada;

2. Have a minimum of two (2) years of plastic surgical nursing experience as a registered nurse in a general staff, administrative, teaching, or research capacity within five (5) years prior to application; and

3. Have spent at least fifty percent (50%) of practice hours in plastic surgical nursing during two (2) of the preceding five (5) years."

You could work toward certification as a certified plastic surgery nurse (CPSN)

Good luck!

Thank you!

I used to work for a plastic surgeon part time....did not need anything special...He liked that I had critical care exp...but nothing really needed. I liked the enviorment, but I definately prefer a different pace!! Good Luck!

I worked as a plastic surgery scrub nurse after working on a med/surg floor for a few years. I had no experience but thought it would be fun, so I found out who the good surgeons were in the area and wrote to them. I got hired by one of them and they trained me. I had a blast working for him for a couple of years before we moved. Get O.R. experience if you can, but be persistent and don't give up on your dreams.
