I would like to know that starting Salary for starter Nurses with a BSN. If you can tell me more beyond the BNS that would be very helpful! Thanks!
I started my first job in 1995 and got pain 12.90 per hour! There was not a nursing shortage at that time. I lived in the Midwest. Now, I am a nurse practitoner, but RN's in the Midwest still start around $21 for new grads. But, there is differential for nights, weekends, and bonus shifts during shortages. It is pretty inexpensive to live in the Midwest. I think it is all relative. The $20 per hour you receive is not bad with the money you will be saving on gas, etc. You will bump up in no time :)
In Canada, we no longer have a 2 year diploma program for RNs. This may not be fair, but unless you want to be an LPN, a BSN is now the minimum requirement to practice as an RN. I think this is the problem for many Americans searching for work. While some of your facilities may not require a BSN, they are starting to be preferred.
Well I thank you all for all of your replies. Most of it makes sence to me. I will start with my AA in Nursing and then get my BSN from there then probably move on the the masters to become a nurse practioner or a Nurse Anesthetist.
I see you are very young. If you have the option, go for your BSN right off the bat, especially because you want to go on for your Masters. It's very hard to get an RN job in most places and having a BSN will give you an edge in the competition. In my area, many hospitals will only consider a new grad with a BSN.

BSN isn't gonna get you much, if anything more than a regular RN in most cases...unless you have experience to add, AND the job is requiring some management- but then, ultimately, the salary increase is due to the job and experience, not the difference in degree.
