I am being considered because of my management experience as well as being an internal candidate. None of the things you mentioned are new to me and also have nothing to do with length of time as a nurse. A person can be a nurse for twenty years and never be capable of management. I will have no issue answering those. Thanks!

Ok all- I need some advice on how to rock my upcoming interview. I have been an RN for about 8 months, but have 9 years of management experience in my "previous life" and was elected class President in nursing school. I am always finding myself the "go to" person regardless of asking for it. Staff from various shifts and departments always come to me with their issues etc. SO- my point...I am interviewing for a unit manager position this week at my facility and need advice. I have been told by various people that I am a great nurse and are often shocked to discover I have been a nurse for only a brief time. How can I focus the attention on my management abilities combined with nursing? ANY input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

There are jobs to be had if you are looking for "work" not "particular work"- meaning home health, nursing homes, rehab centers, state prison etc. Look everywhere- they are there. If you are only looking for hospital or certain areas, then good luck. Try recruiters, try per diem or contingent with an agency. They are helpful if you are trying to get into a hospital too because they will get you there and you can prove your worth rather than sitting and hoping your resume gets pulled from the 10,000 others. This search will be tough until the boomers retire.

You need greater than an 850. Keep in mind, the questions are scored like boards. More difficult questions are counted higher that is why you can end up with scores over 1000.

BSN isn't gonna get you much, if anything more than a regular RN in most cases...unless you have experience to add, AND the job is requiring some management- but then, ultimately, the salary increase is due to the job and experience, not the difference in degree.

They tend to think a needle "in" is a needle in. Not so much!

Hi all- I'm currently attending OUZ, and biting my nails to see if I was accepted into RN ADN program for Spring 2011. I'm freaking out because they met early this week...but as of yesterday (Thurs) letters had not been mailed out. WHY THE WAIT??? They are KILLING me. Ha. So any input from anyone? What tools are good? Any organization tools you've learned? I'm on the OCD side and if I am not organized, I tend to freak. Lol. Any input of any kind is appreciated. Anyone out there willing to share what their GPA and HESI scores were when they were accepted? How many times you applied? And what classes you had left at the time you got in? Also, did you have any clinical experience etc? Thanks so much! I've tried asking a couple of people at school and it's hit or miss if they are nice enough to remember sitting in my shoes...

I agree, that's a joke to spend that much money. Like I said, I spent $400 on my class to get my STNA (CNA) license, plus the state testing fees, and I have been an aide for six months and I start at a hospital on Monday in the ER. It's not easy here in Ohio to get in with a hospital but if you keep applying you will get it. Still better than spending all that money. And if you really find you can't get in, the only thing worth taking would be a phlebotomy class at a community college or something.

I am not sure how this works, if it goes by region or what, I am new to this posting. I am in Central Ohio. I went to My Tees on Cleveland Ave and it was a three week every day course for $400. They were very very thorough. It was better for me to suck it up and go every night from 530-930 than a quarter of one night a week, or two max.
