RN residency programs not for new grads.

Published

Hi all!! :smokin: I am looking for a residency program in either Cardiac or the ER. I have found several places that offer NEW GRAD. programs, but what if you have a year experience.... anyone know?? I am trying to get the training I need and work in an area I love.

THANKS!! :heartbeat :clown:

I think some of them accept both new grads & experienced RNs wanting to enter a new specialty. They may not specifically state that on their website, so I would inquire about it.

Where do you live?

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

it depends on the program. the program i attended a few years back accepted any nurse with less than 2 years of work experience. now, they may not.

Washington Hospital Center has a RN Bridge program for nurses with experience. Not sure all of the specialties, but my friend is in the March 2011 group for critical care.

Specializes in NICU.

If you don't have nursing experience in the specialty you want to apply for, then you can go in a new grad residency program. I have known a couple nurses coming into NICU from having adult nursing experience who opted to take the full new grad training.

Specializes in Leadership, Psych, HomeCare, Amb. Care.

Our hospital offers a year long residency program for all new grads. In addition to 9 weeks unit orientation, it's one day per month off the unit for the program.

We have a recent hire with one year of home health experience, but no hospital experience, that I was able to get into the program. Programs may have restrictions based on how the program is funded.

I am in VA. Thank you for all the tips everyone!! I have had a bug and been under the weather, but will look into this as soon as I am feeling better again! Thank you! :)

check out UCSF and UCSD in San Francisco & San Diego, and UCLA. I'm certain I saw this on the UCSD or UCSF website the other day.
