RN Refresher Course-CSUSM or UCSD??

U.S.A. California

Anyone out there that could share any experiences with the nursing re-entry courses at either Cal State San Marcos or through the UCSD extension courses? I'm considering enrolling in one or the other if I can't get into a new grad program this winter since I've been out of school for a few years now. I figure anything might help-the job market for new grads or those with just a little experience is SO limited!! I'm getting very discouraged!

Thanks in advance, I hope there's someone out there with some input!

I would definitely consider working out of state. what in your opinion is the best way to go about finding/applying to out of state new grad programs?

thanks so much for taking the time

:)

Maybe aftercollege, or just google new grad programs and see what you find. You can call HR directly too. That's where I'd start.

already tried to google the phrase but have never heard of the aftercollege option. I am on it. Thanks for the tips

Thank you so much for providing this information regarding the Grossmont Refresher course, extremely helpful! : ) I would like to know how many days a week, how many hours a day, and for how many weeks are the lectures. Also, how many days a week, how many hours a day, and for how many weeks are the clinicals. Is the whole refresher course approximately a few months long? Once you've completed the course, do you get CEUs? I also live far from San Diego, so how many days a week do you commute? You mentioned you head home on the weekends. Are all the classes and clinicals only during the week? How much the refresher course cost, inlcuding everything?

If it would be alright would be you, I would appreciate discussing this with you in private, if you prefer. We can exchange emails or phone numbers. Your call. I am just very interested in doing this refresher course and am trying to get as much information as possible!!! Thank you for your time and consideration.

I can answer a few of your questions:

The Theory is 7 weeks Mon-Tue-Wed-Thurs, 0800 to 1330 (maybe longer on calendar to to school break and holidays).

The Clinical is 8 weeks and the shift and days are variable depending on availability(maybe longer on calendar to to school break and holidays). For example, right now all Fall 2011 clinical rotations are 1500-2330 on Sun,Mon,Tues. The Spring 2012 semester begins Jan 5th and ends approximately May 16. At this time the course awards 30 CEU as approved by the CA BRN.

The school is accredited by: Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
