Each school has different waiting list time frames. You need to ask this question at each school that you are considering. The best course of action is to apply to every program within your geographical area, then start to fan out from there. The first school that admits you, if you don't want to wait for your first choice (which may not take you at all), is the school you should jump at. Unfortunately you are talking about an area where most, if not all, of the schools have long waiting times.

My daughter got in the back door at a Community College. The RN program has a lot of applicants and usually a long waiting list because they use the lottery system. It is what I used to call a TopCap program, so she applied to the LPN Program, then transitioned right into the RN program. Because the first year classes were the same for RN and LPN program, she went smoothly into the second year of the RN program.
