I am a volunteer and want to be a nurse someday. Yesterday, I shadowed an ER nurse. I helped her carry a hospital bed with a big and obese man on it to the OR. The nurse, patient escort, and I had to push him up like four floor at our hospital. The nurses is middle age. Am wondering if all nurses do this a lot? Do you guys carry patients a lot? especially heavy one?
  2. I will apply to nursing school next January after finishing my prerequs. My concern: will being a nurse prevent me from serving God and church? I plan to teach bible sunday school in the children ministry at my church somewhere in the future. Reading through the threads, ADN nurses seem to have a tiring job, physically and mentally. I probably get my ADN first before my BSN. does any christian nurses out there have time for serving their church? Two more questions: how about time for your family? does ur job tire you out so that spending time with your children and spouse seem physically too much?
  3. agree, I only marry MD if he is Patrick Dempsey. besides most of them are pretty nerd looking. not attractive to me.
  4. no sooo arrogant!!! i am a volunteer for two weeks at a hospital and see enough of MD arrogance. I was helping a secretary stamping a chart the other day andthe machine stopped working for some unknown reason. Later, A plastic surgeon used it and suddenly it worked. The secretary asked how did he fixed that, and he answered "Ten years of schooling" with his face up. So annoying.
  5. NurseJewels, which part of UCI Med Cntr. did u volunteer at? i apply to the clinical exterder late, so i cannot go there now. A reason I volunteer is my spring semester intership class at my school. my class starts on 1/28, so UCI seems to be the quickest route.

  7. KDP07, are you in the LPV-ADN bridge program? how much does it cost for the program? I am so undecided right now. I am not sure if I want to be in the waitlist of some community colleges. It seems so long. plus, do you have to take the TEAS?
  8. hey llu1224, does "4 times" mean four semesters or years? a friend told me it was 4 YEARS.
  9. hi fellow SoCal, i have a question about golden west and LBCC, do they have a waitlist? GWC has a lottery system now (according to its web and some thread on this web). it does not seem fair if they do the lottery while there are applicants who are eligible but did not have the chance b/c their name was not chosen.
  10. I am sooooooo confused. I live in Orange county California. I do not know what colleges to apply to. For now, I am intending to apply to the Santa Ana and golden West college for their ADN. the problem is I found more colleges that I have never heard before. Those are Everest College in Anaheim (LPN), Stanbridge College in Irvine (LPN), West Coast University (LPN to ADN) in Anaheim, and Concordia in Garden Grove (LPN and ADN). Does anyone know if Santa Ana college or golden west, Saddleback College is better than those other colleges (everest, stanbridge, etc.)? does SAC and GWC do a better job in training nurses? help!!
  11. is it true that one year of LPN program is the same as first year of RN? someone on this website told me that her daughter apply for LPN first b/c RN programs choose students through the "lottery" system. it is too competitive that way. The closest schools to my home have lottery system.
  12. I have two questions on transition from LPN to ADN. 1) if I transfer from and LPN to ADN, do I need to work as an LPN for a couple of years? 2) i read some threads that say LPN program is the first year of ADN. is this true for most program? is not the school are different, so the classes may be different?

  14. Hi everybody, I am looking for a good hospital in Orange county and Los Angeles county to shadow a nurse. so far my friends tell me to go to USC hospital to volunteer b/c it offers the best volunteer opportunity. i live in OC, so the drive is pretty long. does anyone have any recommendation in any OC's hospital. i volunteered at UCI medical center before; it was a waste of time there. does anyone have any opinion on st. Jude or CHOC in Orange,CA (both are OC's hospital) or ANY hospital in OC?
