Hi there,

I´m an icelandic RN and I am trying to find að program to be a Paramedic. The location doesn´t really matter. I have a wife and two children i´d take with me to the states.

I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find a RN to paramedic bridge. I only seem to find paramedic to RN bridges.

My interest is in pre hospital nursing, that´s why I want to become a paramedic and a RN.

hope you can help me:D

quite a few posts in this thread from 2002 (some won't be helpful, but I did see some that would)

I took the liberty of moving this thread to the International Forum as you have other issues that need to be dealt with as well.

Not sure if you are expecting to come here with a student visa and then return home, or if you were wishing to remain here? We do not have visas currently available at this time for nurses and that is the route that you would need to go as far as immigration as paramedics are not usually issued visas to work in the US with that training.

Next is the fact that most programs require that you are able to work legally in the US as they expect hours to be worked while in a program and you would be unable to do that with the student visa.

Can you be more specific as to what you plan to do with the training, then I will know which route to recommend to you.

Thanks for your understanding on this.

thank you for you´re reply,

I haven´t really thought about that yet. I have contacted center for emergency in pittsburgh, beacause many Icelanders study there and they can help me with the visa issues. However i´m also wondering about taking my master´s degree in the US so I would use a student visa fort that.

but I have another question, I´ve been told that it´s not a problem for foreign nurses to get visa because of the nursing shortage in your country. is that not true

thanks for you´re replies and i´m sorry for any misspellings :)

Currently there is retrogression and nurses have been affected by it. Nurses with a PD of 2005 and early 2006 are only just getting process for their visas. If you are looking at student visa then will be very expensive and if taking your family your wife I believe can not work

This is no longer the case that one will be able to remain in the US to work when they are done with their training. And the US is under a retrogression at this time, so you are going to have to wait to be able to get a job here.

But even for those that have come to the US in the past to train and remained here, that happened in the past, and is no longer true now.

And as mentioned above, you will not be able to work and your wife would not be able to work either. And it is not a point of them being able to help you with visa issues but the fact that there are not any at this time. Student visa is not going to permit you to work here.
