I am starting at Watts School of Nursing and was wondering what to expect as my starting pay upon graduation as a RN at Duke Medical facility or UNC. Of course, I plan to continue and get my BSN after I start work but was curious about the starting salary at graduation. Has anyone just completed a RN program and started at Duke or UNC? If so, what was your starting pay? Pros and cons of Duke vs UNC? Thanks!

When I started at Duke in 2017, new grad starting rate was 23.85. I'm not sure about UNC.
I'm a Watts Alumna, good luck in the program!

Hi! I’m a recent Watts Grad! (Dec 18!) I know Duke’s base pay is 24.33/hr and then diffs. Good luck! I’m on my second day of orientation for peds!

I agree with the above post and after my first year, I got about a $1 per hr raise and bonus for finishing residency. I've really enjoyed working there. I worked for two other systems not in this area and they were horrible compared to this hospital.

A recruiter reached out to me regarding an interview for one of the Duke Hospitals. How was the interview process? Would you be able to give me sample questions from their interview? Will you please tell me the differentials for weekday and - end night shift(s), if you do not mind? My pinger number is at 1 (818) 570-8054. Thanks!

I had my interview a few weeks ago. Pretty standard behavioral questions. Tell me about a time when you had a conflict.... went above and beyond etc. Where you see yourself in 5 years. Not sure about shift diffs at Duke but the pay for a new grad nurse starts at $24.68. It starts at $25 even at UNC.
