I have some questions I was wondering if anyone can help answer.

1. What is the difference between a long term care facility and a nursing home?

Different names for the same thing as far as I know

2. What are the main illnesses that residents in a long term care facility have? What is the main nursing care that will be provided?

COPD, IHD, multiple sclerosis, cancer, congestive heart failure, arthritis, osteoporosis/arthritis are but a few of the conditions I have encountered. All our residents are asked re resus status when they are admitted. If their heart stops beating do they want to us to do CPR. What do they want us to do if they end up getting sick? What do they want in terms of end of life care?

Generally the focus of treatment is on maintenenance than active treatment

What is the main duty of the Registered Nurse in a LTC facility in comparison to a hospital?
