RN License Issuing Issues?????

Published

So I called up the BON of NY and they said to mail in my form 1. I already took the NCLEX RN and PASSED :D/

But how long will they take to issue it now? They told me that every 5 years you need to update the form. OMG! I passed but they wont create a license because of form 1 needs to be updated. I mailed it in they received it on Friday. I called them on Tuesday they said that they dont have it on my records yet. I have proof of delivery provided by USPS. Express Mail (online tracking is my proof) . How long will it take them to issue a license for me since I passed my RN a month ago. Getting frustrating. I want to transfer it after to Colorado.

They say like oh we dont have time to get the mail. Maybe we'll do it next week or another day is all they keep saying. Im not sure whats going on in the office of the professions. Should I ask to speak to the supervisor?

Quite honestly all things considered (and I *know* am going to get flamed for this :D), but you need to chill-lax.

You are dealing with a civil servant bureaucracy that runs on it's own time. Issuing a RN license isn't just a matter of opening an envelope looking over the application and rubber stamping it "approved".

IIUC what you are basically asking for is overnight/expedited service something to the best of my knowledge isn't offered. There are hundreds if not thousands of other applicants waiting for their papers as well and so far you've given no huge reason why your application should be pushed to the front of the line.

If you have a job offer or something similar in Colorado they will understand that paperwork takes time. You have proof of passing the NCLEX and of starting the process for NYS licensure, that should be enough. If it isn't then ask whomever is pressing you for a copy of your license to issue some sort of official letter stating what the big hurry is about.

Look its just because everyone who took the exam after me already got it. I have been waiting more than a month for my license. Usually it only takes 2 weeks. They never even notified me that I needed to send it in. I had to call and ask them. Shouldn't they be calling me and notifying me? Also how many paperworks do you think they process a day? I'm sorry if I sound aggravated, its just really stressful.

IIRC since about the late 1990's your school will forward form 2, but the actual licensure paperwork (form 1) must be initiated by the GN, that is *you*. Didn't anyone at your school explain/pass out information on how to go about applying for NYS licensure?

Why would the state contact you about licensure? When you passed your driving test did they call you to go to the DMV and upgrade from a permit to full license?

Have no idea nor care to guess what goes on up in Albany, so cannot be much help as to how much gets done in a given day. However check your bank to see if the payment sent along with your application has been cashed. Then at least you will know the paperwork was received and something has been done with it.

Again RN licensure isn't just rubber stamped, someone has to personally review the information submitted, check some facts then approve (or not). Are you sure you filled out all information correctly and had the application properly notarized? Are there any *issues* in your background you may have failed to disclose or did?

Honey in all honesty I'd just enjoy this beautiful holiday weekend and relax. Worrying about this isn't going to make things happen any faster. You've done the hard part; getting through a nursing program and passing the boards so chill-lax a bit and have some giggles. Besides over the course of your professional nursing career you will be dealing with paperwork and or bureaucracy that will make this seem tame by comparision.:D

I have a feeling theyre not working on anyones paperwork

Its really frustrating not knowing if there actually working on the paperwork whos paperwork there working on? Its a lot of things. The NY office of Professions needs to be strict about employees doing their work and they need to make sure thery hire more people. wait times is ridiculous
