Hi Everyone! How are things going there in MS?
I just tok my nlex (CA) nov 20 and am still paying for a positive result. It stopped at 75.Anyway, that's another topic! hehe!
Anyway, I worked as a private duty nurse for almost a year for a royalty in Saudi. Benefits are good, Got to travel with them for free around europe, but it came to the point i have to make a decision. I had to give up a great job there.my fiancee doesnt want me to go back to saudi and instead to go MS to settle down. So we are going for the fiancee visa. I am just worred if ill be able to find a job there in MS since the availability is going low for nurses. I dont want to be a burden to my future husband and I dont like staying home all the time too. Need to work and save for the rainy days so they say...Just written here to know the situation in MS... and relieve my anxiety...
and by the way, hehe wanted to know how will I move my license from CA to MS since i've sat for the exam (CA) already. Thank you soo much!God bless!

If you are speaking of the Jackson area, the answer is yes. There is a nursing shortage everywhere. I am a travel nurse from Jackson and if there is a hospital, there is a need.

Check the Meridian area. Times are tough there right now but you might find what you are looking for. My son drives from Meridian to Jackson (about 90 minutes each way) to work on week-ends. You can check out the Vicksburg area. I have a friend who went to work in Vicksburg and loved it so much she moved her family there. Getting a Mississippi license shouldn't pose a problem.
Hope you find what you are looking for. Let me go again and warn you, though, once you get hooked up with a Mississippian, you will find that they don't leave Mississippi

Are you here yet?
If not- there are jobs. But I hear different things lately about some places in jackson having hiring freezes and freezing extra benefits, but I heard Jackson nurses go a base raise at the beginning of the year. I work in Vicksburg, and even though my scheduled hours have gone down, I still end up making them up when it is all said and done.

Hi Kathy! Thank you for your reply. I was just anxious about getting a job there coz i had to give up my job at a saudi palace(PDN for a princess) but its ok, heheh a mississippian stole my heart! haha!i'll probably be ther eby middle of this year. Oh, he is from canton. I'm actually going to attend an EKG interpretation and ACLS training at the Philippine Heart Center. and whioe waiting to leave, I'm still deciding what to do with the several months remaining...Either I go for a hospital training or maybe 3-6 months hospital work.. or take some Masteral units (9-12 units) this summer (summer here in MArch-April -May)..which do you think is more important there or would help in getting a job?
thanks so Much!!!!
Honestly- I don't know. How long has it been since you've done floor nursing?
ACLS and EKG are definitely helpful. Masteral units- I don't know what that is, but if it is just more education to work towards your BSN or Masters- I'd really look at some of the programs around Jackson to see if they are transferable (University of MS School of Nursing, Alcorn State University, someone told me Jackson State had a RN-BSN bridge????) But in the long run more education never hurts, but every hospital is different on how they compensate for it.

Don't know too much about central MS, but I live on the coast, and there are plenty of opportunities still down here.

reside in the central area plenty of jobs available...
The freeze is pertaining to "new grads" which is sad, hopefully it will pick back up...the seasoned nurses still have more options available...

Welcome to MS as the other OP stated you will not leave..ha ha:D
I would strongly suggest obtaining your Master "master units" its not much difference in AS/BS pay in our state however the cost of living is much cheaper than CA...last I check it was $50 to practice here relocating from another state however you can contact MS BON here is the link and I wish you the best....
