U.S.A. California

My husband got accepted to UCSF dental school and we are trying to decide if we should go there or University of Michigan. I will graduate with my ASN in July and will take the NCLEX soon after. Are there any jobs for a new grad with cna experience in San francisco or surrounding areas? Does anyone see the job market improving in the next year? Thanks for your help!

I do not see the nursing job market improving in the SF Bay area next year or anytime within the next ten years. I apologize for sounding pessimistic, but the area has too many nursing programs that pump hundreds new grads into the local employment market when there are not enough jobs to go around for all of them. In addition, many local RNs from the classes of 2008, 2009, and 2010 are still unemployed. A significant number of these jobless nurses have previous healthcare experience as CNAs, HHAs, phlebotomy technicians, and MAs.

Simply put, the area is afflicted with a glut of nurses, and a new RN is a dime a dozen. In addition, a major disadvantage is the fact that you did not complete school and clinical rotations in the local area.
