RN Job Hunt in NYC! Help?!

How difficult is it to get into NYC hospitals? I've applied to literally 138 jobs online for NYC health and hospitals. I have been a RN since feb of 2019. I have a little over a year and a half of cardiac/tele medicine and step-down experience. I understand it may be competitive but exactly what are we competing for or against? What are the recruiters looking for?

Its pretty rough in NYC, especially if you don't have a BSN, which you do not specify. 

There has been a huge hiring interruption thanks to Covid in a lot of places as well.

Thanks for replying! I do have a BSN, and you're definitely right. COVID most likely has people weary. I just don't appreciate them still posting jobs LOL. I guess I'll just have to wait D=

I’ve heard from a few nurses in NYC that some of their hospitals are still having hiring freezes so you may be applying to positions intended for internal hires.
