Rn in Italy become an Rn in Ontario

World Registration

Published

Hello,

I am a Nursing student in the University of Bologna , Italy. Mine is a first cycle bachelor degree program that already allows graduated registred nurses to work without needing to attend further studies . I'd like to know what kind of courses are generally asked to international nurses to take ? Do nursing students in Canada use the NANDA diagnosis book ? And if anybody has any idea if Italian university Is considered for the accreditation at a good level.

thanks though is not clear to me your conclusion and what you try to communicate about all the high numbers of international rn and engineers ( sorry , what about engineers ..?! ). If they do not accept ien then they should not even let ien start any process and wasting time and money .. What I asked if there is a chance , but I guess it must be otherwise all of these processes are not justified .

I am well conscious of the fact that nobody can obviously self refer to any bridging program . In fact , as you can see , I wrote several time that it can be after the CNO letter . Moreover I'd like to say that . Here I am trying to get information about this process. I am determined about my goal , so what I am looking for here is not if I should or not do it . there are cases of ien managing in getting that license !

The college's have nothing to do immigration and work permits. A lot of provinces will not issue RN/LPN licenses without proof that you are either citizen or have valid pr/work permit.

The difficulty is finding employer willing to go work permit route and offer full time, that is part of the requirements for work permit, when local new grads and experienced nurses are looking for work and will not cost $$$ for advertising. Nursing is not experiencing a shortage in most areas

So excuse me , do you know when an IEN should start the process for getting the work permit ? After sending the advisory report to the CNO?

So what you are saying is that is almost impossible getting the license given that Canada already have plenty of nurses already registred in their CNO?

Thank you

IENs are not coming to Ontario on temporary work permits, they are immigrating to Ontario as skilled workers, they qualify for immigration because they have more than two years work experience.

As a IEN who originally came to Canada via husband's work permit and then got a work permit of my own, a employer will not look at you as a RN unless you have either passed NCLEX or have eligibilty to sit the exam from the college of RN.

Most provinces employers are unionised so to meet for work permit you need a full time position which as per union is based on seniority so jobs generally go internally first before expertnally. Exceptions is finding a employer in an area which does suffer from a shortage of nurses and these areas tend to be extremly rural. Jobs in hosptials generally start as casual then part time and for many wanting full time it takes several years.

It probably is easier to try for the Skilled route but experience will be required.

We are not trying to make this difficult for you, but to be realistic and that it can take years. At least if you go the Skilled route you will get permanent residency.

@Casoclinico What @dishes meant by the detail about engineers is that engineers are in the same situation as nurses in Ontario. There are very few jobs and many applicants for these professional, licensed positions.

About allowing IENs to start the process even though there aren't many jobs...one thing that is important to remember is that immigration is big business. From recruiters to colleges and universities, to companies like CGFNS (who have the contract for NNAS) and Touchstone Institute, they all make big bucks on the hopes of newcomers wanting to come to Canada. I wish I could say Canada were immune to this, but we are not. IENs wasting their money is the least of their concerns, trust me. The few cases of IENs getting their license after the NNAS process was implemented in 2014 are people with PR status, most are educated in US, UK (although a few from Philippines and Caribbean countries, one from India) and only recently did CNO change the process to allow them a chance to get a license.

As @silverdragon102 said, we are all just trying to help and give you the straight truth. There is no sense in hiding the problems within this process and I want everyone to have as much information possible to make their decisions with.

Ok , ofcourse they do not care about money or time making other people waste .

So can I ask you if you have any idea how is it possible to get the PR status , through work , for a IEN?

@ RN_Pro

I' d like to add , even though is of no importance to this topic , that a large amount of nurses in UK are educated in Italy

thankyou, can I ask you how did you manage to get the License?

. Yes, the only way is get through that process , ofocourse.

So can I ask if would you suggest me to work 2 years In Italy ( is it a 12 moths work experience at least ?) and then start the process for the license ( or even before ofocourse )

Great thank you !

I don't think IENs get PR status through work. They are PRs already before they apply for their nursing license.
