RN to BSN at WGU?

Published

I plan to advance my education in spring 2016. There was a university in state that I have been considering but I recently heard about WGU. I like the way that you can advance pretty much at your own pace and you don't have to have prerequisites to attend, which most universities require. I have searched information about it on AN, but still have some questions I don't feel were 100% answered. First, is there anyone here that has completed the RN to BSN at WGU? How exactly does it work (is there any course work to help you prepare)? And one thing I'm mostly nervous about is the assessments. I've seen people that have failed the assessments over and over. My fear is that I'll get into the program and do the same thing. So what is the difficulty of the assessments and do they give you what you need to prepare for them?

Thank you!

I am currently doing my RN-BSN through WGU and it's going well. I started in June and have already finished one class and am halfway through another.

The assessment of the first class was really easy. It was a proctored exam with a preassessment. I took the preassessment and then took the test online with a webcam. I only had to have a 66% to pass and got an 80 something. You get two freebie assessments, and if you don't pass, you have to pay for each attempt afterward. The webcam was super easy to set up and it's really comfortable to do the assessment in your own home.

Right now I am doing Biochem and I'm going slow and actually trying to learn stuff, since my last chemistry class was 21 years ago. I am getting ready to do my first assessment, which is a paper with diagrams. The hardest part is getting the APA right.

I wish I had enrolled straight out of my diploma program. This is super easy. The only problem I have is with the weekly calls, mainly because I keep forgetting about them and I have to interrupt dinner to answer. My mentor is super sweet, though, and always sounds a little disappointed that I don't need any help!

I'm really excited to start. I'm glad you don't feel it's too difficult too. My one worry was that it would be impossible to teach myself, especially since I haven't taken biochem or micro before. But from what I hear, they give you good material to study from.

The material for Biochem is great. There's a text and a series of videos with the most excited chemistry prof I've ever seen. I assume the rest of the classes have something similar. You'll do just fine.
