RN BSN- VS LVN

Published

Ladies and Gents .I work in the ED and have a 4 year degree working toward masters.I am an RN with lots of certificates. TNCC,ENPC,PALS,ACLS, BLS,CHM and ect. I am sick of fighting with medical assist\and LVN on why they are not as good as RN's.Listen go get your BSN and get about 5 years of real exp. Then get all your certs, then and only then you will stop asking why medical asst and LVN s are not the same as a RN(especially BSN).

The movement toward hospitals only hiring RN with BSN is real and starting to take over the nation. All RN s with years on them go back get your BSN ( its usually only 1.5 years and its usually paid for)and then we can all advance our profession.

I had a MA and a student LVN fighting in the hospital who is better and why.Let me be blunt .A MA will not be in the hospital unless you work as a nurse aid\or lab draw.Your pay is between 9-12$ hour ,maybe more if you have a lot of exp.LVN will work in nursing homes, and very rarely in the hospital, if so in an outpt setting. They will make about 14-16 $hr. In some cities they may make more like 18-20 $ but its harder to come by). They have a license but must work under RN supervision!(this is state law in almost every state)

I respect each field ,but if you want the recognition as an RN and the money and everything else,go back to school , (preferably )a university ,spend about 40,000 thousand on nursing school and become a Registered nurse.Period!!!A RN in most states average 30$ hour and go up to 50$hr. (we will not even start with the NP salary and degree)which is around 50-65$ hour depending where you live and work.

Just like any other profession the more you go to school and the higher education level you acquire, the more opportunity. salary, authority and accountability you obtain. Its not just the medical field, its that is this way!! Its just about any other field also.!

It ****** me off that all these CNA\MA\pharm tech\PCA and ect lure folks in to believing they will be a medical professional that makes great money and become a nurse like person in 6-9 months is crazy. The new twist now is trying create 2 years degrees for MA s and pharmacy tech so they can say they have a degree.Listen if you really want to learn in a year or so go to LVN school or become a paramedic. They have more training and actually make a decent living. Paramedics have a two years degree now also.Which is another school tactic to make the field look great for people to state they have a degree. Its ok to work at what you want and be proud, but do not be bitter,to the RN s who put in years and thousands of dollars to become what they are as well.

Specializes in ER.

Yeah. The ADN and BSN curriculum is almost so similar now a days anyway. The direct entry BSNs have the same curriculum that we had with the exception of a stand alone leadership class and a bunch of GECs. Religion will not help me be a better nurse.
