  1. DNP should be entry level for all NP's. As of now 2017 it is similar to the BSN VS ADN. MSN can practice ,however the DNP is more in depth in functions of community, practice, research and specialty and gives you more insight into the role and scope. Also it gives you the title of doctor. Yes doctor! (just make sure our patients know what we are a doctor of- Dr Harry Reid D.N.P doctor of nursing practice
  2. I could not agree more!! I feel they should make all NP's have a DNP for entry level practice. This will help solve many of these issues!!
  3. Every RN I know is either going back or planning to go back to NP school. Very few jobs in NY area. Pay is much the same of experienced RN.Get your BSN and specialize, that's the need. They need to go to the DNP to stop all these RN's going back for NP.We need staff RN 's in specialty fields more. The physicians and PA's are also increasing their numbers too.Good luck finding jobs as new NP's.Please pass the DNP in 2020.
  4. It depends on the state you practice in. In no states can a PA practice independently. In 22 states a NP can practice without supervision.A NP is mostly for primary care but can specialize ,like psych or Emergency. The PA is more diverse but has more supervision. Both make about the same. The NP can obtain a DNP doctorate in nursing practice and have the title of DR,especially in research. They are different professions with two different scopes and lines of thinking.Np's in most states have greater script authority.A DNP has more education and has greater authority and independence in most states than PA's.
  5. I too feel like every RN I talk too wants to go back and become an NP. The schools are saturating the market and will bring the NP salary to that of an experienced RN.I have friends that completed NP programs and with their student loan payments are actually making less than they were as an RN with less student loan payments.Every graduate nurse is going for NP and every LVN or LPN wants to go for NP. Who will be left to be at the bedside!!I am in belief for advancement ,however the same thing happened to the lawyers ,they saturated their market and now some lawyers make the same as a starting out RN.I truly have not meet an RN that state,s they are not going back for their NP.This is concerning because not every nurse was made to be a provider. The schools are making it easier with online versions, no RN experience, no GRE,s and part-time ,piece meal programs!!They make it so every nurse can get in to a program. You do not see this in medical school. The NP programs need to up their game, take only the best and take experienced RN's that have actually worked for a few years!!If not we will have poor NP's that will hurt people and this will destroy the NP's scope and all they have worked for!!
  6. Ladies and Gents .I work in the ED and have a 4 year degree working toward masters.I am an RN with lots of certificates. TNCC,ENPC,PALS,ACLS, BLS,CHM and ect. I am sick of fighting with medical assist\and LVN on why they are not as good as RN's.Listen go get your BSN and get about 5 years of real exp. Then get all your certs, then and only then you will stop asking why medical asst and LVN s are not the same as a RN(especially BSN). The movement toward hospitals only hiring RN with BSN is real and starting to take over the nation. All RN s with years on them go back get your BSN ( its usually only 1.5 years and its usually paid for)and then we can all advance our profession. I had a MA and a student LVN fighting in the hospital who is better and why.Let me be blunt .A MA will not be in the hospital unless you work as a nurse aid\or lab draw.Your pay is between 9-12$ hour ,maybe more if you have a lot of exp.LVN will work in nursing homes, and very rarely in the hospital, if so in an outpt setting. They will make about 14-16 $hr. In some cities they may make more like 18-20 $ but its harder to come by). They have a license but must work under RN supervision!(this is state law in almost every state) I respect each field ,but if you want the recognition as an RN and the money and everything else,go back to school , (preferably )a university ,spend about 40,000 thousand on nursing school and become a Registered nurse.Period!!!A RN in most states average 30$ hour and go up to 50$hr. (we will not even start with the NP salary and degree)which is around 50-65$ hour depending where you live and work. Just like any other profession the more you go to school and the higher education level you acquire, the more opportunity. salary, authority and accountability you obtain. Its not just the medical field, its that is this way!! Its just about any other field also.! It ****** me off that all these CNA\MA\pharm tech\PCA and ect lure folks in to believing they will be a medical professional that makes great money and become a nurse like person in 6-9 months is crazy. The new twist now is trying create 2 years degrees for MA s and pharmacy tech so they can say they have a degree.Listen if you really want to learn in a year or so go to LVN school or become a paramedic. They have more training and actually make a decent living. Paramedics have a two years degree now also.Which is another school tactic to make the field look great for people to state they have a degree. Its ok to work at what you want and be proud, but do not be bitter,to the RN s who put in years and thousands of dollars to become what they are as well.
