RN to BSN

Hello all. This may be a bit premature of me- but I'm already thinking about how I can get my BSN (as quickly as possible) after completing my ADN from CCRI. I have this summer off, then have 2 semesters left at CCRI. I will graduate in May 2012. I want to start working as an RN obviously right away, but at the same time want my BSN asap to hopefully get me into a position I really want. I have a psychology degree from URI, so part of me feels like it might make sense just to go to URI- but while researching RN to BSN programs, the RIC course load looks lighter. For example URI has organic chem listed, whereas RIC doesnt. Does any one have any knowledge or experience as to the quickest path for RN to BSN? Which RI 4 year school has the shortest completion time? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! :-) Thank you in advance.

Hi - You might try the online programs. I've seen some that take as little as 12 months. RN to BSN. Good luck. I applied to CCRI June 2011 application period. I"m hearing through the grapevine that some students have already heard. Yet when I inquired on campus, I was met with a brick wall. I'm too old for these games. I too am anxious to find the fastest route!

The RIC program is by no means a lighter load than URI...in fact we have much more stringent grading policies and standardized testing than URI. There are 8 credits of chemistry required, and part of it is organic chem (Chem 105 and 106). I graduated from the program in May - if you have questions, let me know.

Hey Guys. Thanks for the info. I have a bachelors already from URI and have already completed Chem and Organic Chem from a previous degree. I assume they would transfer from URI to RIC. I looked into URI and I can only see 4 courses I would need to complete. Leadership, Community, Research, and something else I cant remember. I'm not sure what I would have to take at RIC. Violin- good luck! CCRI has a great program! I only have 2 semesters left (thank God)- its a wild exhausting ride, but its a great one!

Thanks, Rhody34 - I think I'm going to be obsessed with my ccri email account in July. I have good grades, a bachelor's from Georgetown University and I'm a quick learner. Those are my rationales, at least. I'll let you know what happens!

ok I just checked RIC requirements for a second bachelor's - BSN. It stated that at least 30 credits must be taken at RIC of the undergraduate courses, exclusive of the nursing courses. Is this true? If I apply there, the only cognate I would need to take would be the second semester of chemistry. Any suggestions, anyone? Should I just forgot the RIC option then?

Thanks

What campus did you apply? Days or nights and weekends? I'm at Lincoln nights and weekends. Start Nursing 4 in September. Cant wait to be done! haha!

I applied to the Warwick campus days for the fall. June 2o11 application period. What application period did you apply in and when did you hear?

I applied in February 2010 and was accepted in June 2010, and began Nursing 1 in September 2010. I believe they let students know either way whether theyre accepted or not, and if I remember correctly acceptance letters go out first. I'm not 100% sure though. Good luck- I'm sure it'll work out well for you! I don't know any of the Warwick instructors.

Thanks for your response, Rhody34. I'll let you know what happens.

I handed in yet another nursing application today to CCRI. Lincoln day program. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I'll take violin and piano lessons and maybe get a few gigs.

It depends. URI's program is the most difficult, especially chemistry, and if you are working while going to school it will be extra difficult... I only know a few students who can finish the URI program while working on the side and they are all exceptionally energetic, type A people. But in the end it will be worth it because the program is great it is just very demanding.
