RN to BSN which school is best?

Published

I'm trying to decide which way is best to go from RN to BSN. I'm thinking of doing online with University of Phoenix or Viterbo University (LaCrosse, WI) which meets in my local city one day a week in person. Both cost about the same, are accredited, and will take the same amount of time.

Does anyone have advice either way? Has anyone done either of these programs? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I did an RN-BSN program at a local, well-respected public university. It was "web-enhanced" - meaning I had some online content but also some classes. I would be careful about choosing a 100% online school. They look good as far as convenience goes but I think the quality of the programs varies significantly between the different online programs and there is also a big gap between what you learn in an online program and what you can learn in a face to face program with faculty that are actually nurse researchers. I also think that if you want to go on from the BSN educationally or move up the career ladder, getting a degree from a "real" school can matter, depending on who is looking at your resume. I know quite a few people that have no faith that online nursing programs are any good. At least check out your local colleges. You might be surprised at how little you actually have to show up in class now to get a BSN. Viterbo I think has a good reputation -- that might be the way to go for you.
