RN to BSN programs in NY?

U.S.A. New York

Updated:   Published

I've done lots of research but Im actually confused, these schools have so many alternatives given to a point where my brain just cannot function anymore. For the past month I've been doing nothing but research about schools and nursing, so please help? ?

Im going to a community college where I figure I do pre-reqs - 2 years of it. I hope to earn a BSN by finishing the next 2 or 3 years after the community college in NY at either Pace, or Hunter, or Columbia or NYU. I'm not that loaded on money and so I'm focusing on the first two rather than the latter. The community college I go to now gives out ADNs and so I automatically have a degree on that, making me have to pick an RN to BSN program, if I choose to accelerate, correct? So if I go to Hunter, however, I've heard that I have to waste time there for a semester before being able to get into their nursing program (and I doubt I will even afford to do so), and in Pace, I hear that their nursing program is only in the Westchester campus - which I cannot go to, as I don't drive and other family issues concerning the campus and area.

And also, do most people who earn their ADNs actually work or do they go straight to earn a BSN?

Oh, and im not even close to being around the NY state - I originally am, though from Westchester - I moved to TX about last August.

I'm so sorry for sounding so ridiculous right now, but I really just wanted to clear it up with your more experienced folks ? Any things that I got wrong? Any other programs in Manhattan that I actually haven't heard of? Or opinions, and advice? I would really appreciate it! ?

From what I know, people that get their ADN in New York City particularly do work, because the ADN have much harder admission than the BSN programs, so people usually only apply to them if they want to go into work and get their ADN later.

You got everything right. Hunter requires you to be their student for a semester before you can apply to their nursing program. Another school you might want to look at is Adelphi University. They are in Long Island but you can do the RN to BSN program at the Manhattan campus which I heard looks great and their tuition is definetely not what Hunter offers lol, but it's cheaper than the others.

There are actually several options you have.

In the Westchester/Bronx Area:

Pace U

Mercy College

Monroe College

College of New Rochelle

Lehman College

In the Manhattan/Brooklyn Area:

LIU-Brooklyn (they also have a RN-BSN/MSN program)

Medgar Evers College

York College

St. Francis College

Wagner College

St. Joseph's College

I also know that SUNY Binghamton has an accelerated option for RN's along with the regular program.

I am sure they are more but those are the ones i know off the top of my head.

College of Mount Saint Vincent (Riverdale, but has a nursing campus in Manhattan)

College of Staten Island (CUNY)

Is it a hint no one mentions CMSV for either second degree, RN to BSN in threads or even as an ADN in threads! *LOL*

thank you guys so much for your replies and help! I will definitely look into that those!

A half-sister of mine I believe goes to CMSV, haha. Along with her cousins. I'm really looking into that! It sounds good.

Is the Adelphi program hard to get into?

The Adelphi program isn't that difficult to get into. a 3.2 will be enough to get into it.
