RN to BSN online questions

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi all,

Just trying to clear up a few questions in my head about the whole process if anyone can help?

OK, as I understand it.

1. Apply to RN to BSN programme in school of your choice.

2. They evaluate your transcripts after they've been sent from the place you trained

3. The school then tells you which courses you need to take so you can complete your BSN degree.

Question: Do the schools spell it out for you, eg: you need to take x course before you can take this next class and do all the RN to BSN programmes, as a rule, offer the needed prereqs or do you have to take them at CC before you can enter the programme?

Hope that makes sense!

Your question makes sense, but I think it depends on the program, so it's difficult to answer with one blanket answer! But generally, yes, you got it. As far as the pre-reqs, from what I've seen, the RN-BSN programs really do vary on this. Some require definite pre-reqs before you can even apply, and some just give you credits for being an RN and don't look as closely at the pre-reqs. And I'm sure some offer the pre-reqs that you'd need.

Is there a program in particular you're looking at?

Lunah is right about there not being one specific answer to this. Most prereqs are about the same though; ABOUT being keyword. I plan on persueing my RN-BSN after I graduate. I plan on doing the few pre-reqs that I lack at a community college in order to get my GPA up. Univiersity classes tend to be a bit harder and since the grading scale in my nursing program is so harsh, it has dropped my GPA a little. Anyways, if I knew a little more about what your school required for your ADN and what school you plan on attending I would be able to tell you more. I have done A LOT of research on this subject matter.

Thanks for your answers guys,

Umm, which school....there in lies the problem. I did my nurse training in the UK (emigrated years ago, work as RN here) and the education system is vastly different to here. I'm trying to track down my transcripts at the moment (there in lies another saga....sigh!), so haven't applied to any schools yet. Just trying to figure out the best course of action to take.

I've been checking out a lot of schools and have decided to narrow it down to the online programmes. I'm interested in Uni of Wyoming, Slippery Rock, FHCHS and UOP. UOP seems off the radar at the moment because of the expense. Maybe... I'm really not sure and have to do a lot more researching. UOP say I could start tomorrow but I don't want to pay thru the nose for prereqs with them if I know I can do the prereqs cheaper. But, they'll spell it out for me which courses I need to take to meet the requirements of the BSN. Decisions, decisions! :-)

Thanks again for your help

Bright Eyes, find out if UOP will accept CLEP - they're exams that will confer college credit if you pass.

Thanks Suesquatch,

I believe they will accept CLEP. I'll look into it a little furthur.

I did my BSN via UofP and at least when I went there (2004-2005) they did accept CLEP tests.

Good luck.

Thanks TraumaRus.

How did you like UOP? Do you remember ballpark figure what you paid? For the BSN part alone it was going to be over 20K, not including any prereqs. Did you do any prereqs with them or did you have them all out of the way and went directly to the BSN core courses? Did you CLEP any?

Thanks again
