Riverside School of Health Careers RN program

Published

Hello everyone!

I am looking for current, past, and even prospective students for Riverside's RN program. I will be applying for the September 2013 professional nursing program. For current or past students, what was your GPA and teas score? Also how was the program, instructors, clinicals? I did attend the last open house in December and I was hoping that a student or recent grad would be there to talk about their experience. I love how the instructors seem to be really supportive and the small campus also appealed to me. To other prospective students what start date are you applying to and do you have any other nursing/healthcare experience? Any advice or other information on the program is greatly appreciated!

Oh ok. I don't know much about Sentara's program, I've heard it is good though! Very competitive! My plan is to go to their first open house for next yr because I would like to do their RN-BSN and I know there are some pre-reqs I will need to take. But GL to you and keep in touch!

Thanks!!!!

How long is Sentara's RN-BSN program?

It varies, it can take up to 2-2.5yrs if my memory serves me right. They allow you to go at your own pace so you can take 1 class at a time or take on a full load and be done w/in a year I believe.

Hello ladies! I have been looking for information about Riverside program. I am currently trying to get all the papers needed for my application. I'm really excited to finally apply to a RN program. Any information or orientation is greatly appreciated.

Hey, the program is 2 years long. It's made up of six 13 week sessions with a month break between each session.. Everyone there wants you to be successful.. You start clinicals in the 5th week of the first 2 semesters.. Then start clinicals 2 times a week from semester 3.. Your first semester starts with the basic concepts of nursing and helps you to start using your critical thinking skills which you'll definitely need.

That's awesome!. I am so thrilled to apply and hopefully be accepted into this program. Any advise for the interview, or the test?

I would suggest for the test study the ATI teas V book.. If you have any weakness in math, science, english(grammar), or writing work on those areas.. Take the practice test offered in the book.. For the interview, it's pretty straight forward. If you have any volunteer experience that's helpful but not required to get. Have a well rounded understanding of nursing in general.. I felt as though I was interviewing for a job, which essential you are. I can't remember for sure but I believe you have to score at least a 65 on the teas just to get an interview, but you do get a second chance to retest if you don't the first time around. Good luck!

Hi ladies...I have a question about shoes. What type of shoes does Riverside require for clinicals? Shopping around...unsure what to buy? Thanks in advance

They require solid white leather shoes, no crocs but slip on tennis shoes are good.

Thanks for such a quick response...you mentioned no crocs, what about clogs or open heel shoes? I'm guessing they probably have to covered too?

No open heeled shoe, I'm pretty sure clogs are ok. Just no open heel. I have slip on tennis shoes which are similar to clogs. Just make sure they are super comfortable. You will be on your feet a lot during clinicals.

I applied and had my interview last week!!! I'm just waiting now... How long did you all wait for acceptance (or even non acceptance) and how well did your interviews go?

I interviewed in May...got my acceptance letter early May. My interview went very well! Short and sweet! Good luck!
