Riverside City College: Fall 2018

Published

Hello my fellow future nursing students! With many of us finishing off the last of our prerequisites including myself, I wanted to create a space for those applying for the upcoming FALL 2018 semester. Feel free to post any questions you may have, the points you have before and after the taking the TEAS exam, any tips you have to offer, and any dates or other important things you hear from our wonderful nursing staff. I want to wish everyone applying the best of luck as we prepare to embark on the next leg of our journeys!

Hey thanks for making a page! I was going to, but my friend said there might be one up already. I'm also applying for fall 2018. Are you just applying for the RN or are you also applying for LVN too?

Glad to have you :) I'm applying just for the RN program. I was thinking about trying to get everything done for the LVN program as well, but I was trying to focus on just finishing up the second semester of A&P. Now I am just sitting and waiting to see what grades I got for this semester. I am so nervous haha. Once my grades come in I can give my points before taking the TEAS. Are you planning on applying for both? I know a few people who are going to.

Good luck to everyone who is applying for fall 2018. i don't know when to apply yet. I still need to take A&P2B & micro. I haven't taken the Teas exam, but if I do good in these classes when do I get invited to take it? I was thinking of working as a CNA before nursing school, anybody know how to become a CNA? Thanks!

Thank you Joseizking! It is really appreciated. Technically, I believe that you can apply anytime (including while you have prerequisites in progress). You will not get the points for having those sections completed.

I would say the best bet would be to finish up your science prerequisites and the basic general

education courses to maximize your chances. I'm spending my last semester taking a couple of classes necessary for getting my BSN one day, but my main classes are now complete. I would personally encourage you to space out 2B and Micro. If you plan on taking them both together let those be the only two that you take and do not work. I have had friends who did both. I only know of two were able to get A's in both. The professors want the students to focus on one at a time.

I have not taken the TEAS yet myself. It looks like people who applied for Fall 2017 got their TEAS invites from the school early April (7th) and took it in early May (11/12th). For those that applied for Spring 2018 they got invited mid to late October (20th) and tested in mid November (15-16th). The dates will change a bit, but that should help to give you a feel when you are able to apply. They invite those with the highest science GPA first. As some people may have applied before and/or taken the TEAS, I heard that there is a second wave of invites once people have accepted or declined the invitations.

In regards to becoming a CNA... Check in the nursing building. They had a list up last year for places that offered CNA courses. I found that some of the places were no longer offering it, but I did find three in particular when I was looking. If they no longer have the list, let me know and I can try to find the places I found. I know one was Chaffey College for sure. I decided to not do it though for a few reasons.

Of course! (: & I see, I did not know that! My chance of getting in without the pre reqs or Teas exam would probably 0.000001% since those are the two most important and gives the most points. Still working on pre reqs, & have not done the teas exam yet.

That's currently what I'm working on, almost finished science and general . I'll be finished by 2018 fall semester, that will be my last semester and I'm done with everything. I was told by Jackie that I need to apply for 2020 fall. & that's good! I have heard stories about taking those 2 classes together, but knowing me, I rather just focus on science class at a time because I don't want to risk it.

I see, thank you for the information!

I never found that information there. I'll check again once winter semester starts. I will let you know because I really want to find this information out for the future.

I plan to apply for both programs. I'm not a CNA yet but I want to do it just in case.

From what I have seen on other threads I would say that the chances are slim without completing them for sure, but not impossible since some of the people are chosen randomly. I did see on another thread that the spots were filled based off the top 80% coming from the people with the highest points and the last 20% were randomly selected. Since the TEAS invites are solely based off of those with the highest science GPA, I would assume that if you had not completed your sciences you'd be low on the invite list. It never hurts to try though!

If you are going to be done by Fall 2018, then why not apply sooner if you are able to do so? I do understand that there may be some personal circumstances involved or you need to take other classes, but don't let too much time pass between your sciences and taking the TEAS. You may even want to take the test right away if you do apply later on. I have seen some threads on here where people have waited quite awhile before taking the TEAS. Some were able to rock it and others not so much :/ Err on the side of caution. This test can only be taken once and it can make or break an application.

i see. So if I applied sooner, and let's say I was lucky enough to get in without the pre reqs done, will I have to do them while in nursing? Wouldn't this be harder to do since nursing classes are really intense? That's the only thing I'm worried about, but not sure how it really works.

i plan on finishing my last 2 pre reqs on 2018 then do the teas exam. Yea the teas exam is a really big deal for the points. Have you you taken the teas yet?

Hello Starrynights. Back again I have 60 points after taking the TEAS. That's counting the EMT experience and the NXN class. My gpa is 3.5. My biggest downfall is the TEAS score I got that I think is holding me back as I got a 74%. I'm planning to reapply a third time and I'm still optimistic about getting in.

I would only try to apply if you have your last prerequisite(s) in progress and let that be Microbiology preferably. That way you do not have to worry about trying to take them while taking nursing classes. I am not sure if that is even allowed at our school. You will still have lower chances of getting in than people who have completed the classes, but if you did get lucky and manage to get a spot then you'd have everything finished.

I have not taken the TEAS yet. Hoping to get invited in the Spring *fingers crossed*.
