Rituxan dosing - Excessive?

Hi forum,

Could anyone comment on dosing for Rituxan for NHL? I have seen a regimen that seems unusual to me. Is a regimen of rituximab for NHL at 375 mg/m2 x 12 consecutive weeks unusual? If this is used as a standard Rituxan regimen for NHL patients, would this be concerning to any of you?

I have seen 4 weeks of Rituxan and even 8 weeks a few times, but 12 consecutive weeks seems unusual to me. I am concerned about patient safety.

Comments? I appreciate any input, thanks!

I can't tell you from the clinical perspective because I don't work in oncology but my Grandma receives Rituxan and the most she has ever received has been 8 weeks. From what I've read in drug books that is the max for a series. Twelve weeks does sound like a lot.

This might not be of much help to you. I administer rituxan in rheumatology for RA,sjoren syndrome and other unlisted autoimmune disease patients, the order is for 1000mg #1, and #2 at the 15day. I do not know about NHL.:)

Thanks. I hope your Grandma did well with Rituxan, I know it is an effective drug when given appropriately. I am concerned about what I am seeing with the 12 consecutive weeks, I have seen some things happen with these patients shortly after the regimen end and I am very concerned about the toxicity of giving it for 12 consecutive weeks at 375 mg/m2 dosing.

Any other observations are appreciated. Thanks again!
