Published

Hi everyone! I am making this forum because I see that it hasn't been done yet. feel free to post anything related to the nursing program process

Is anyone else considering private schools for 50k for a BSN or is it only me... this community college has me so stressed!

What time do they get off? it's over 5:30pm, and I assume they already got off.

It should be 5:00. I am going to check roughly what time people got letters from in past dates, because I'm tired of being anxious over this haha

I 2nd that notion! This is my first time applying. I don't think Ill be applying again. Who wants to do this 4 5 times? I don't like the process. It's not uniform. Nobody knows what's going on, the programs don't even follow their own rules. Creates a lot of added stress. I think the money spent is well worth it, if you have it.

I think a lot of it has to do with how erratic COVID has made everything. I mean, they had nearly triple the # of applications this semester than last semester. It's difficult to account for that sort of thing and gauge perfectly how long it'll take to get everything done. From the nursing information session, they apparently have only 3 staff members going through all the applications. Additionally, they have each staff member look through all 600.... that's quite a lot of applications to go through.

What I don't understand is why Rio Hondo doesn't have an automated system like Mt Sac does. This whole mailing in thing was just weird.

Ah me too especially I was preggers and went into labor during application process AND now anxious AF while with a new born and a toddler... insane

Well, I can respect that COVID argument. But I am Tired of reading "we encourage you to apply next semester". I've applied to 10 schools rejected from 5. Expectations low for the other 5. Im just an average student. I did good in my nursing journey to get here, but is it good enough? Its not 4.0 and I read plenty of posts where people who have 90 points are rejected. I've start

Check out cdu BSN it's cheaper than wcu but they're unorganized

I understand your frustration; I've felt plenty of it on the way. It's just that the community college ADN programs offer such a cheap pathway to becoming a nurse and subsequently, makes ADN programs super competitive. As a result, a lot of these programs are just finding any little way to weed people out.

I researched most programs and it seems like most of the people getting into any of the ADN programs have these stats:

*4.0 sGPA or very close to it

*All General Education Finished

*High TEAS Score

*Over 200 hours of healthcare experience (some schools want more than 500 or even more than 1000)

*Associates Degree or a Bachelor Degree (some won't even take an associates for points)

*Foreign Language

With that being said, Rio Hondo College is without a doubt the most disorganized ADN program I've seen. I kind of applied in hopes that it's lack of clarity would cause it to have less people apply, but quite the opposite happened it seems! And to make it worse, they have reduced spots this semester (only 30!!). I wish everyone good luck in getting in, but wow this cycle was a tough one.

I love that! HAHA, slide in under the radar tactic... I've hoped for that too for many of the schools I applied to. Pray that somebody makes a mistake and approves my application for acceptance. And private schools capitalize on our frustrations and the fact that CC is so difficult to get into. Anyway, I'll temper my frustrations, for now, it would be crazy if I actually get in.

Oh, I was totally banking on less people applying this cycle and just BARELY getting in. The increased applicant pool was something I never imagined in my wildest dreams, I'm so glad I took the measures to make my application stronger this semester now.

If everything goes absolutely wrong after this cycle and next cycle, my plan B is applying to every single grant and scholarship under the sun and going private. What's a little annoying is that some private schools want so many extra classes to transfer.

We just have to hope that even though the sample size of applicants increased that the stats of the average applicant went down, too. Ha.

I feel the pressure as well.  I have 4.0, but no medical license and a bachelor degree, so I don't expect much with only 30 will be accepted.  I just applied to Stanbridge University.  yes, it is more expensive, but it is a bachelor degree, that being said magnet hospital will hire after I get the license, so I will save time.  In a year, I will be able to pay back my debt

Is Stanbridge cheaper than WCU? And where is it?
