You can quit anytime you want unless you are under a contract.

Texas is an at-will employment state. You can terminate your employment at any time, for any reason. Likewise, your employer can terminate your employment at any time, for any reason.

You can give notice at any time. The usual notice period is 2 wks for staff nurse and 1 month for management. Some facilities state how much notice you are required to give. If you leave and fail to give at least 2 weeks notice or the notice required by your employer, most places will mark you as "not eligible for rehire". This could hurt you when applying for other jobs. Also remember that Group 1 is in TX and if your facility reports to them, you will have an even worse time of things if you don't give the expected amount of notice.

You can find Group One mentioned in a lot of threads on this site, just do a search. Basically, they are a third party management type company that gets involved in employee background investigations. They have earned a bad reputation among employees for their heavy handed treatment of people's professional reputations. Once you have a bad record with Group One, you will find yourself with a lot of employment doors closed in Texas. Thus the warning in the previous post. You should contact your HR dept. and find out if they utilize Group One and base your next move accordingly.

This story sounds juicy. Give up the details.
lol. well I posted under general nursing discussion about it. basically I was put in a position to try to fix a unit as a charge nurse becuase admin won't listen when we say we need more staff. Staffing would be 1 charge 5 lic an d 1 tech for 28 pts. very busy med surg floor. most all lvns with 2 being new and very weak and using up all my resources as charge. I got a final warning for a password issue where someone used my password to access medical records a couple of months ago. Then I missed some blood (totally my fault)it was hung on nite shift so the pt did get it that day. Well monday my manager i guess got annoyed that i didn't do the rounding for this quarter (makes her look bad but noone else did it) and that day at 5pm I got placed on 3 days admin susp pending review because some float nurses complained that I didn't help them during thier shift. WEll it was probably because all my time was spent with the lvns who were not very strong to begin with. one of them was so freaked out and only had 2 pts who were light and medium acuity. so they used the final warnign and the complaints as reason to terminate me. i was trying to save my pto by resigning before being terminated but they took it anyway. I let them terminate me. I was there 9 1/2 yrs and never had any issues until this year in the last few months.
Man, they hung you out to dry. So sorry. I've taken jobs where I was supposed to change things. One place I did. The others......turned in my resignation and nearly had my career ended with the facilities lies about me. Hang in there. You were in a no win situation and they were just looking for a fall guy.
