I live in the socal area and have found some ridiculous rules. According to the people at csulb you can only reapply once and they dont add any points or anything to your second application. If you dont get accepted the second time then you must apply elsewhere. So what I'm understanding from their statement is that if you apply once and get rejected then you pretty much have no chance of ever getting accepted at the college. According to csula if you get a "C" in any of the science prereqs even if your total science gpa is over 3.0 then you cannot apply. This is very disheartening........ Has anyone else experienced similar things with the BSN programs?
Well in my case I've done fairly well in the science prereqs, I got an A in Physiology and Micro and a high B in chemistry. I thought micro and physio were fairly easy but my Anatomy teacher was just insane. Like I previously stated, there was only 1 A in the class and the remaining students got C's........ There goes everyone's university dreams. Many of you mention making up classes??? At my colleges they do not allow you to make up classes in which you got a C or better in.......
Hi there...I just wanted to say that I live right near the cal state lb campus in seal beach..but will be taking my pre-reqs at Long beach city college...
I know someone that is in the nursing program at cal state lb and she got a C in chemistry..and she's in! Sooo...I wonder what that means??

I don't think this is unfair. With so many applying, the schools are going to choose the best and brightest. If the schools wants to consider GPA only and limit applications - that is their choice. As far as having hard professors, you chose where you did your pre-reqs and you chose to stay in those classes.
I agree with this wholeheartedly...I had very demanding professors and didn't shy away from the experience. Dive in and realize that doing well in the more difficult setting is in fact more rewarding than sliding by with the easier instructor.
This is information that will need to be stored in a concrete manner and retrieved at a later date, I wouldn't accept anything but the best if I was an admissions officer. To achieve the GPA I wanted, I made myself focus on one core science pre-req at a time and I did it, even a 6-week summer session Anatomy with lec/lab four days a week.
Please know it can be done, if you want it badly enough.

Many of these schools look at NET, TEAS, work experience, etc. The problem is everyone is applying with higher scores on these tests and they need some way to rank people. When 500+ people are applying for 100 seats they need more than one way to rank people. Unfortunately science GPAs are a decent indicator of how well someone will do in a nursing program. A co-worker described nursing school to me as the same intensity of A&P.
This being said, you shouldn't give up. Retake those science classes you got C's in. Yes, it may take a bit more time, but it will up your chances of getting into nursing school. Best to make your two applications worth it!
