RIC nursing program

Hi there:

If you petition and have good grades, you will probably (I know several students that have) be able to take the first four classes concurrently. I graduated just last semester :), and RIC is a pretty good program. At this time, you are required to take and pass with a 31% or better the HESI in transitions in order to graduate.

I applied for admission in fall 2007, but am still waiting to complete a plan of study. So, I think I will be eligible for spring 2008 admissions. How about you? Did you already complete a plan of study? Do you already have a Bachelor's degree?

Does anyone have information about admissions at RIC? The website is not too specific. How competitive is admission? Any help would be great.

Is anyone applying to the nursing program at Rhode Island College for the Fall 2007 semester? I'll be done with ALL my pre-req's, co-req's and distribution courses, so won't have any classes to take except the nursing courses, The first 2 classes that every one has to take are only 3 credits (6 credit total ) each I'm wonder if I can take the first 4 classes (which would be a total of 12 credits) that the program has, so I can qualify as a full time student so I can qualify for financial aid.

Any comments that can help me get an idea of what the program is like from current students currently or graduates from RIC nursing program would help?

You can petition to take the first 4 together which is possible and advisable if you wish to expedite things.

After those, they only let you take two at a time, although it may be possible to take 3, the school will probably not let you do so. The other thing is that for just about each class, you have ATI exams that you must pass within a certain percentile in order to pass the class regardless of your grade and you must also take the HESI exit exam and pass within a certain percentile to graduate from the program.

Does anyone know how many second bachelor's students are accepted each term? I was told that the class is full for fall so that I will be considered for the spring...what a process!

I will be in my second Junior semester Fall of 2007, I think something to remember is that the program is starting to have some significant residual backup. Meaning, people that were qualified had to get turned down a previous semester due to lack of space so they are now priority admissions for the next semester. I recommend you apply as early as possible because you are likely to get turned down at your first application.

I applied to the program for Fall of 2005 and was not accepted due to lack of seats (with all of my cognates and distribution courses complete). I got in for Spring of 2006. As for 2nd degree candidates, we have a ton in my class, I don't know the amount that they accept. Like someone else said you can petition to take the initial 4 classes together, however, the department has just started a new registration, scheduling agenda that is effective Fall of 2007, and was told that this practice will dissipate.

Good Luck! the program is a lot of work, but I think overall it is a good one.
