admission requires completion of the pre-reqs (two chems, bio 108, anatomy, two psychs)

and a minimum gpa of 2.7 (though i don't know anyone who has been admitted with under

a 3.2).

I posted a whie back and have been reading over the posts here. I've completed all my pre-reqs except chem 106 and have gotten an A- in everything else. My gpa is just under 3.7 and I swear all I think about is my gpa and getting in, whether it's good enough, etc. I am so nervous that I won't get in because of what I've heard about transfer students. It seems like I would have a good shot if I do well in 106, but I don't really know. Along with 106, I'll be taking core 1 and 2 this fall - so I'll be in for lots of studying and writing. ;)

If you have a 3.7 for a GPA and you get a good grade in Chem 106 I am sure you will get in without a problem. I was a transfer student and I had a 3.8 when I applied and got in on my first try, keep in mind the minimum is 2.7 but they really only take people with a 3.0 or above. I'm sure you will be just fine.

I agree, you seem like a good candidate. I don't see why you wouldn't get in. Good luck with your application!

You definitely have a good shot. It's really all dependent on the pool of applicants at the time. I took chem 106 a long time ago, but I didn't find it overwhelmingly challenging. Yes, you will have to study, but getting in the A range is definitely possible (I got an A- and am generally not good at chemistry). Good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I hope I get in on my first go at it, but will *try* not to be disappointed if I get passed over the first time. You hear so many stories about transfers and second degree students that you just don't know what to believe.

Do any of you know if they take a percentage of transfers based on class size or just a set number each semester?

Good luck to all of you as well as you finish the program!

From what I've been told by my adviser, they have a set number of transfer and second-degree students that they accept each semester. Students who started their freshman year at RIC are given first priority, then several spots are designated for the transfer and second-degree people. It is more difficult to be accepted as a transfer/sec deg. student, but not impossible.

Thanks for the good luck... we'll need it this year! Graduation and NCLEX is just around the corner! :nurse:

Hello i was a originaly an education major when i realized that the education program at RIC sucked! now i am a nursing major and i think all the sciences are interesting. Yes its odd! lol... well i am wondering i got all my GED out of the way. next semester i will take anatomy, chem 106, and physiology. I am only taking those three but i will be full time plus i think thats enough on my plate. I took micro, psyc 230 . I only need the nursing classes left. My issue is that my GPA will be around 2.9 or 3.0.. so i am afraid i might not get accepted, what would i do then? take a semester off? will they allow me to take basic nursing courses, or drug calculations atleast? my last resort is to transfer to ccri, but i really want my BSN?

It's funny that you said that because RIC is known for having good education and nursing programs. Guess not everyone agrees!

there is a lot of hype about the education program, but i personally think its bogus! at least the nursing program educates you on things that you are eventually going to use! they make you do all this nonsense to get accepted, write a paper take these exams, and after i did all of that and got accepted the semester after all that was not required any more! i think is unfair and they are just trying to make it easier for future applicants.

Well look at it this way, you get to educate your patients. That's a big part of nursing care. Also, you could be a nurse educator down the line and combine your interests! There's so many options available to you when you're a nurse.

Hello, I will be transferring into RIC with an Associates Degree in the spring of 2011 and will be carrying along with me 75 transferable credits (out of 100.5 lol - yes I went to a school way up in the Rockie Mountains so the longer I went to school the more I could ski *:giggle:*) and approx. a 3.2 GPA. I do have A&P completed but feel that my grades are not as high as I would like them (part 2 was taken in the winter... in winter time I used to not be the greatest student, lol - but that has changed for sure) so I might retake - plus it has been about 6 years since finishing those course studies.

Anyways, I have 3 small children and was planning on taking the 230 (Human development) and 105 (Chemistry) in the spring. BUT now I am understanding that I will have to wait until AFTER orientation to register for courses, this will be Jan! I just looked at the courses and 230 is closed and 105 has one seat left in the hour I NEED. To make it work with my children and balancing Kindergarden and childcare I really REALLY need these exact courses at these exact times.... This educational/career choice and starting it in the spring is essential to my children and myself.

Is this common for the first semester to not be able to get any courses you need to take? I can not be taking fluff... (I have done enough of that) I need to get this done. Are there waitlists? What are the chances of getting into a course if put on a wait list? Are you able to talk to the professor in allowing you to register for the course though full or is the class size set in stone and once full its full?

Hope I made some sense. It is late and I am tired. lol. But I had to write and ask people who have been there and done that before I go to bed in hopes of waking up tomorrow with some answers I seek. :)

Thank you in advance for your time!

~Ashley

Well becuase Psych does not require a Lab. You can get into it easily. Just email a professor and talk to them about your situation, most likely they will be able to help you. The professor i took was very nice and fairly easy going, she let me enroll in her class even after it was full. The Chemistry i dont garantee. Since there is a Lab most labs are full and there is no way to squeeze you in. Try taking you Psych and Core 4. If your lucky, they might open other sections. Hope this helped, and good luck!

Thank you so much for your response. That makes me feel better and sounds like a great idea. I was also just looking into it and noticed that I can take both Chemistry courses back to back in the summer sessions (more then likely if the schedule is anything like last year). I am just so ready for this new chapter in my life to begin that I am just trying to get everything lined up (since it is not just about me anymore and have to have all the pieces in place) and when I saw the courses were filling up I just kinda freaked. lol.

Oh and your response was totally helpful, I appreciate your time and thank you. Good Luck to you too. : )
