Returning to nursing after a hiatus

I started my nursing "career" in 2012 in the PACU capacity in Houston. However, I left nursing in 2015 to pursue another career interest. Thus I have not practiced nursing in over a year, and I would like to return to nursing. I'm having a hard time finding opportunities in nursing because my nursing skills have become rusty. I thought that maybe going thru a new RN internship would be a viable way to re enter the field. However, i have applied to a few "new grad residency" programs only to find out that they dont want me because those are designed for new grads.

So i would like to know if im wasting my time trying to re enter the field, or if there might be a viable way to do this.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Of course the new grad program don't want you; you aren't a new grad. You do have three years of nursing experience, so that should be what you're selling. Yes, your skills are rusty, but you won't be starting at ground zero the way a new grad would be.
