  1. hello I started my nursing "career" in 2012 in the PACU capacity in Houston. However, I left nursing in 2015 to pursue another career interest. Thus I have not practiced nursing in over a year, and I would like to return to nursing. I'm having a hard time finding opportunities in nursing because my nursing skills have become rusty. I thought that maybe going thru a new RN internship would be a viable way to re enter the field. However, i have applied to a few "new grad residency" programs only to find out that they dont want me because those are designed for new grads. So i would like to know if im wasting my time trying to re enter the field, or if there might be a viable way to do this. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks
  2. is it common for RNs who begin working in dialysis to resign from their positions? I know a fellow RN who started working with Fresenius at the same time that I did ( about 4 months ago). She has made the decision to resign, because she said it is extremely stressful, and her co workers don't really offer any help. Is this a rare occurrence, or are there some nurses who quit shortly after they begin? Any insight into this?
  3. hello im new to dialysis and have a question about uf profiling. sometimes the doc makes her rounds and she sometimes requests that pts be put on uf profiling, and she almost always requests profile 4. I work for Fresenius. what exactly does uf profiling do? and what is the difference between profile 4 and the others ( as I believe there are several). i'd appreciate any info on this topic. thanks
  4. Guttercat: yes, I'm relatively new to nursing, not a new grad though. I've only been a RN for 1.5 yrs. I had been working at surgery centers, as pre op n PACU RN.
  5. I have been offered a job at Fresenius as RN with NO dialysis exp. I was offered $27.50 / hr. I live in TX (Hou). I was wondering if this is a reasonable rate to accept considering that I don't have dial exp and for this region of the country. Can anyone offer some feedback? Thanks y'all. :-)
  6. Strawberry, thanks for that clarification. :-)
  7. hi schnookimz, yes I got the job, but not in Acutes...Long story short, when I got to the 3rd interview for acutes, the FA said she had some qualms about me being in acutes because I didn't have ICU experience. But she did say she saw potential in me, so she said she'd be glad to recommend me for a chronics position. So she did. And so I'm going to do chronics instead of acutes.
  8. I'm new to dialysis. I hear that pt coding is a sure thing to happen in dialysis. If a pt codes and God forbid, pt dies, could the pts family sue the company and/or you for their loved one's death? that's one of the things that I'm really concerned about.
  9. thanks for that feedback. One more question. I hear that pt coding is a sure thing to happen. If a pt codes and God forbid, pt dies, could the pts family sue the company and/or you personally for their loved one's death? that's one of the things that I'm really concerned about.
  10. so just curious, do you know why there's such a high turn-over?
  11. I am about to be hired by Davita for a chronic dialysis RN position. However, I got an email about an Open House for Fresenius for all types of positions. This has piqued my curiosity. Even though I am about to receive a job offer at Davita, I am very tempted to go to Fresenius' open house. I am new to dialysis. So I wanted to find out from you experienced RNs and ask for your opinion as to which of the 2 companies is better. I researched both, and I know that they are both very reputable companies. Which one would you say provides the best training, cares more for their employees, and which one pays higher? If anyone can offer some feedback, I would greatly appreciate it. thanks
  12. Has anyone of you dealt with recruiters? I have been in the interviewing process for a position at Davita. I have had 2 interviews, and I was told at this interview that they want me to have a 3rd final interview. This was about 3 - 4 weeks ago. I was also told that a recruiter would get in touch with me "soon" to set up this interview. How soon is soon???? I have contacted this recruiter several times, and not a phone call or email has been received by me. I'm not sure if this is their way of telling you "Thanks but we are not interested in you," or if the recruiter is too busy to send a short quick email regarding your application. I have also called their careers hotline to ask for status, and I can never get a hold of anyone at that hotline #. Calls ALWAYS go to voicemail. I just wanted to know if anyone of you has had this same problem while in the interview process at Davita. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  13. So, as Coleebee mentioned, the acute setting is fast paced. So is the chronic setting "not fast paced"? I would think that chronics is even faster paced, since you might be taking care of up to 10 - 12 patients. I'm somewhat confused.
  14. how is the training for acute different from the training for chronics? Both types of patients are on dialysis. Im just trying to understand why a RN who's been trained in acutes would not be able to do the job of the chronics RN and vice versa
  15. I just had my 2nd interview with Davita last week. I think it would be VERY helpful to know the 7 core values ( they are on the davita site) and its mission statement. I mentioned these to them during my first interview and the fact that I knew these probably had an impact on being invited to my 2nd interview. Another question that they'll prob ask ( almost 99% sure) is to tell them about your best strength / attribute, and also what your greatest weakness is. they also asked me why I chose Davita, before I went to the interview I also got on their website and learned as much as I could about it ( values, mission statement, what they do for the community), as they are VERY BIG on community service. Again, I mentioned all these things to them on my 1st interview, and I think that's what earned me my ticket to my 2nd interview. I hope this helps.
