Hi everyone - My story is long, but I will be concise. I am a first-semester student. Mid-semester, I was transferred to a distant campus of our school about an hour away from my residence. My new instructor had different expectations from my prior instructor. I fell short on some assignments and she would not leave me alone despite my taking full responsibility for my work. I told the instructor that my time management skills were lacking this week and that I would do better next week. That would not placate her and she proceeded to criticize me all morning in the hospital and humiliate me in front of the patient and her family. I stressed out and practically hit the ceiling. I don't antagonize people and I internalize everything. I finally melted down and had a panic attack. The department head told me to take a medical leave of absence. I am just wondering if they will actually take me back or will they just put me off. I can return on a space-available basis only. - either next semester or the semester after.

help. I am so disappointed at the way things have turned out.

I have a daughter who has panic attacks. She takes medication for them. Does the tendency towards panic attacks prevent you from being a nurse? Not necessarily. DD is a combat medic (now reserves) with 2 trips to the sand box under her belt. Currently an MA and in nursing school.

I think the main concern would be... did you get help for your condition and is it under control? Things can go crazy on the floor and you need to be able to keep your head about you. Collapsing into a panic attack during a code would not go over very well.
