Retired Rad Tech to LNA in NH

Specialties Radiology

Published

Hi, I am a retired Registered Radiology Tech and I'm thinking about becoming an LNA because I love the local nursing home. Obviously, I had a lot of training and clinical hours ( more than 3100) to sit for the Radiology exam. I don't feel I should have to take an LNA course to take the LNA licensure exam. Shouldn't all my past education, not to mention, several years of work experience, qualify me to take the LNA test without spending $1000.+ to take the LNA course? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, and by the way, my school is no longer around so getting transcripts is not an option. But to sit for the ARRT exam I had to show proof of passing an accrediated school of Radiologic Technology with over 3100 clinical hrs. (as I stated earlier) Thanks, Pam

Unfortunatly your clinical training was directed for radiological procedures and not for providing supportive care to patients in the same level you are now looking at. chances are you will have to go through the entire program since it is a different focus. Similar to is a registered nurse wants to shoot x-rays in a regulated state the RN must go through clinical hours and didactic training with little or no credit for prior experience.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. You are right in one respect, my clinical was mostly directed for radiologic procedures. However, after working at a VA Hospital for 6 years I found the pts there required much more than "just taking an xray" as many people presume we do. Those pts required a lot of support and extra TLC to get thru many of the procedures that were necessary. We monitored BPs did IM and IV injections laughed and cried with these guys and preformed CPR as necessary. If THAT doesn't qualify me to be an LNA..... what does????

Sorry....what is a LNA....licensed nurse aid?

When I was in nursing school (frist year of a BSN) I was allowed to take the CNA test without the classes. Some facilities will pay for you to take the classes and your test.
