I will be starting my nursing courses (ADN) at a C.C. August 22.
It sounds like a LOT OF INFORMATION to have to RETAIN IN MY BRAIN.
After picking up all of my books, supplies, etc. and going through them, I'm TERRIFIED of not being able to retain the info in theory. There's just SO MUCH TO LEARN it's intimidating.
Are any of you worried about this?
See, I took my pre-req courses five years ago. I think that's going to be a major setback for me, too. Even though I pulled A's in all of those classes, I feel that "if you don't use it you lose it" and am feeling quite worried....
I don't have any of my books or else I would have at least brushed up on my A&P. :uhoh21:
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Emma
It is a lot of info to digest and believe me, you will not remember all of it. But don't get discouraged, it will l come in time. This is why Nursing School is longer than one quarter.
As far as the digital recorder, I record ALL lectures. I don't re-listen to all of them but record them never less. This is an insurance policy for me if I don't understand something and need to review, or for those days when my attention wanders. I will only keep the lecture until the next lecture as I review each day after class. There are digital recorders that you can download onto your computer but I have never found a need to do this. The recorder I bought cost me
Just do what works for you.

How's the sound quality? I bought a mini cassette recorder and the sound quality was not very good.
I purchased my Olympus digital recorder VN-3600 from Radio shack "on sale" for $45.00. The sound quality is wonderful!!! It's features include: Easy-to-use jog-dial for quick navigation through folders and options
4 folders, up to 100 messages per folder, scalable recording quality/duration
Convenient metal clip for shirt pockets for quick retrieval
32 MB internal flash memory for up to 6 hours of talk time ,and it fits in the palm of your hand.
The only thing is, I'd like to have more recording time and think I'm going to look into one with more memory . I'm going to check e-bay & amazon to see if I can find a deal.
Thank you all sooo much.
You're awesome!!!:rotfl:
I'm SO GLAD I found this place. I have a feeling I'm going to be here through ALL of this. It's VERY helpful to talk with others going through the same thing. Unfortunately, friends/family don't "truly" understand the complexities of nursing school. It's not like going to school for a degree in computers, like my DH did.
There's just so much to know, to learn.
By the way, I had never heard of a digital recorder.?! I may have to look into that. I think that it may be helpful to record the lectures and when I need to rest....I could always lay down for a while, resting my neck (have probs c it), and be "doing homework" at the same time. What a great idea.:rotfl:
 Cheers to all

Emma,
I was freaking out too ( I start in 2 wks & it has been 5 + yrs since I had A & P).
But then I found a great review for A & P at Borders! It's a quick read & cheap too! ($6.95) Always a good thing when u r a student!
I feel MUCH BETTER now. It has already helped me tremendously in the confidence dept! I now can see an organizational level to the human body (yeah, umm I'm ADD diagnosed 14m ago. How I ever made it this far is ANYONE'S guess! ) Guess I DO have a brain! :rotfl: All kidding aside, here you go:
It's called: Essentials, Anatomy & Physiology. Author: Jay M. Templin, Ed.D. The publisher (Research & Education Association) has several of these "Study Guides" out there on different subjects.
I also picked up some of those great NCLEX review cards from Mosby, just to get myself familar w/the structure of the NCLEX & testing for my classes. Those were $30.00 (not too bad as far as reviews go!). I plan to put those on binder rings & carry them around to study off of. Along with my class notes too of course!
Good Luck & CONGRATS! You have worked hard to get 2 this point! Celebrate & QUIT Stressing! You can do this! We r all here to help one another!
Good Luck!
:innerconf Now make that devil go away! Only good thoughts!
Here's to all of us new NS students starting our program this fall!
:biere: Let's celebrate!

if you are like me, you wont realize how much information you have retained until it all starts coming together.
i volunteer with a youth group and had a kid fall and hit his head, and out of the blue, i knew my whole neuro assessment. it was kind of scary.
as for the recorders, i barely have time to sleep, study and work, so i dont know how students have time to listen to hours of lecture, again. but then again, some of my instructors have been less then helpful and hearing them babble again would drive me over the edge.
good luck.
