Resume Question: RN,BSN or BSN,RN

Published

Hi Everyone,

I know this may be a stupid question. I just graduated in May with a BSN. I'm unsure about how to write my name on my resume. Does it matter which order you put RN and BSN after your last name? I've seen it both ways (RN, BSN or BSN, RN). Does RN,BSN mean you were an ADN first and then went on to get a BSN?

Thanks!

I dont get the "least likely to be rescinded" part either, but - I do know how I see them on CV's, resumes and name badges.

In addition - look to see how they are listed by the authors of articles in journals. It's degree, license, then cert.

Also - look at the ANA site - everywhere they list a nurse's name, its degree, license, cert.

Agree many choose to list themselves as degrees rather than RNs. (Does that seem a tad unnatural to anyone else?)

OTOH, we've all seen many references, articles, texts, etc. where folks go with what we truly are in essence first.

Moreover, if we follow the suggested spec, then shouldn't we really list the degree or RN first... even before our names... cause, you know, we could walk out of the house tomorrow and be hit by one of those monster SUVs while crossing the street! My degree and license are nicely protected in a frame and in my employer's safe, respectively.

OK so, on further consideration, please allow me to re-write my previous example: MBA, BS, RN, Flo Nighting.

There! That oughta do it. That's how we should truly publicize and conceive of ourselves in print.

Ready... let's shout it out to the world together... one, two, three..."we're a BS!"

I have always seen RN, BSN or RN, MSN--I always see RN first. Or am I looking at it wrong? I dunno....:balloons:

No, you're correct. Many use that format.

But now it appears some in academia profess that's wrong, and have gone on to contrive a "reason" for doing so. (Is the hidden motivation behind the new theory to show off credentials at the expense of covering up -- or de-emphasizing -- what we are at heart?)

I've several degrees I could stick after my name. But, so long as I'm functioning in an RN capacity, I'm proud to label myself that... first.

I'm with you on that one! Now all I need is the actual RN...I pray that I get past the NCLEX beast!!!!!!!!!!:nurse:
