Resume Q

Hi Everyone! I will be graduating in Dec :yeah:...when is the appr. time to start sending out resumes? Can u work as a nurse before passing the NCLEX, and if so for how long? Where I'm from there is no shortage of nurses, so I want to get a head start looking,if at all possible. Thanks in advance for your help!

First of all congratulations!! Many nursing students begin sending out resumes right during spring break or a little after for a May graduation. I would think that you could begin sending out resumes in October for a December graduation. However, keep in mind that hospitals with new grad programs often have deadlines for applications. Call your local hospitals to find out when they want applications in if you are seeking a new grad position. You cannot work as a nurse until you have graduated from nursing school. You may work as a graduate nurse until you complete the NCLEX.

September for a Dec graduate.....

I agree with September...I graduated in Dec. and I began applying to new grad programs then. Many people in my class waited but they had less of a selection after Oct. since many deadlines had passed. I already had my job by the end of October. There is not a big shortage where I was applying either. Good luck to you!

Our new grad programs start in August and February. I know that they will begin taking applications for the February openings beginning in September. I would check out websites of local hospitals to see if they have any such programs.

Congratulations and good luck.:yeah:
