Resume/Cover Letter Help

Published

Hello - I am in need of some ideas for writing my resume "Profile" and "Objective" and also my cover letter/Letter of interest.

I am applying for a high school RN position coming from a NICU background 14+ years. I also have paramedic and Ski Patrol background. Girl Scout leader and Skydive Instructor are my educational background to tie it together.

Help!

Thanks

Anything that ties working with kids and health problems of kids like asthma, diabetes, and injuries helps. Experience of caring for patients of high school age in NICU I would use the word students rather than patients. The love of working with children should be highlighted by saying in girl scouts and skydive teaching you loved working with these students of all ages. And that you know that keeping a student healthy equals success in school. Also add any school volunteer work or church youth activities. This will be your cover letter in summary. Then for your resume you will list the NICU and highlight the young age groups you cared for. And then you will lastly list and magnify the skydiving and girl scouts of how you were available for any of the above listed children health problems.

Ex. June-August 2007 I worked at a Girl Scout Leader. I organized activities for girls of all ages and kept health records and was responsible for health emergencies. Some of the students had asthma and other medical conditions. I was available for injuries and for all students who got ill while in my care. (Tweak this)

All of this above is great advice.

Don't forget to mention your experience working with parents as well. You have that in the NICU and in the Girl Scouts. You paramedic experience is also really cool, highlighting being a first responder, a role you would also play as a school nurse (though the tools you have are very different).
