Restraints in nursing home seting

Published

Does anyone know if the use of a "low bed" that goes down to within a few inches of the floor is considered a restraint in the case of a confused resident who likes to wander about?

can they get out of the bed un assisted? If they can't then it is. I think.

i don't think so. we have 2 people who have the low pvc type beds, due to fall precautions. one has seizures; the other transfers self, and can get fiesty when assisted (dementia). i will ask my boss tonite to be sure....

Our facility considers it a restraint and we must get a consent signed prior to use. Hope that helps...
